Electrical Engineering
My decision to pursue graduate study in the United States is underscored by my desire to be a part of the graduate program at your institution. Purdue University offers the flexibility needed for such a vast and rapidly changing field. The research facilities and the faculty at the university are par excellent.
Communications is an industry that has changed our lives. In a very short period it has changed the way we have looked at things since centuries. It is one industry that is going to shape our future for centuries to come. Hence my desire to do masters in electrical engineering with communications as my major.
My interest in electronics blossomed during my high school years. It was the time when technology had begun to make an impact on the lives of people in India. Hence engineering with electronics as my major was the first choice for my undergraduate studies. Right since the beginning of my undergraduate study electronics is a subject that has fascinated me with its power of applications. The subjects that I have studied include Linear Electronics, Digital Electronics. These laid the foundation for my courses in Electronic Communication & Communication Systems at a later stage. My undergraduate studies already focus on the communications aspect of electronics. A masters degree in electrical engineering with communications as major field is the next logical step.
For the past four months I have been working as a project trainee at the Indian Institute for Advanced Electronics. I am working on the design and development of a "PC Controlled Digital Serial Data Generator". This short stint has given me invaluable practical experience. It has given me the confidence to pursue a masters degree and also kindled a desire to do research.
During the course of my work at IIAE, I have come across several scientists. Most of them work in different areas of communications. Interactions with them have made me realize the vastness and the scope of communications. My discussions with them convinced me that specializing in communications will suit me very well.
The subject of research which interests me very much is spread spectrum communication systems. Coding theory and combinations is another research subject which arouses my curiosity. The subject Communication Theory which I am studying at present introduces these topics in theory.
In order to best serve their communities, law enforcement agencies have now begun to focus on the strategy of community policing. This strategy is a philosophy which involves a permanent commitment to the community. Community policing broadens the law enforcement agency beyond crime control. It provides full-service, personalized, and decentralized policing that focuses on problem solving. Community policing attempts to build trust between police officers and citizens and changes each one’s perception of the other. In order to accomplish this trust, police officers need to be fair and responsive through personal contacts on a continuous, prolonged basis.
Community-oriented policing, also known as COP, combines the traditional aspects of law enforcement with prevention measures, problem solving, community engagement, and community partnerships (Community and Problem-Oriented). The United States law enforcement relied on a professional policing model, which was based on hierarchical structures, efficient response times, standardization, and the use of motorized patrol cars. Community-oriented policing began when critics charged that police and the communities they served were alienated from each other. The key element for community policing is the emphasis on the prevention of crime (Community and Problem-Oriented).
The problem-oriented policing model is based around the specification of a problem. A major problem with problem-oriented policing today is the misinterpretation of incidents as problems. Goldstein defines a problem as either: (1) a cluster of similar, related, or recurring incidents rather than a single incident, (2) a substantive community concern, or (3) a unit of police business. There needs to be a clear cut strategy put in place which outlines who identifies problems and who carries the responsibility of resolving those problems. The misinterpretation of incidents as problems is a direct consequence of making line officers the central actors in problem identific...

The Center for Problem-Oriented Policing has recognized this, creating more than 70 problem-specific guides for police that provide recommendations on how agencies can tackle a number of different problems (Weisburd, Telep, Hinkle, and Eck, 2008). Problem-oriented policing appears most effective when police departments are on board and fully committed to the tenets of problem-oriented policing. In a problem-oriented policing project in Atlanta public housing, for example, the program suffered greatly because the police were not fully
The Cold War was a war between the two superpowers, the United States of America and the Soviet Union between 1947 and 1990. The USA was capitalist whereas the USSR was communist. Each superpower favored and supported their ideology while attempting to spread it throughout the world in order to create a sphere of influence. These ideological differences therefore led to a war whereby the superpower either attempted to spread their ideology or contain the opposing ideology by a means of proxy wars, doctrines and policies. This essay will thoroughly argue that it is accurate to state that the Cold War was due to ideological differences. The USA and the USSR each accused the opposing country of expanding their ideology over Europe and other parts of the world. The USA defended capitalism through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the concept of the Iron Curtain, the Marshall Plan and the Domino theory. The USSR, however, supported communism with replies to the USA’s accusations of being expansionist and opportunist and furthermore developed the Warsaw Pact and a series of policies to ensure the spread of communism and limitation of capitalism. There are other factors contributing to the cause of the Cold War, such as Josef Stalin’s dictatorship and suspicious behavior, the USSR’s insecurity of a further attack as with World War II and the USA’s need to keep trade routes available in parts of the world that could not be done if that country was communist. Although these factors are viable, the Cold War was due to ideological differences as these other opinions contain aspects of ideology too. Such as, Stalin’s suspicion was of capitalism and the USA needed trade routes in countries that were not communism. The U...
In the history of the cold war it was expressed by political conflict and economic competition instead of armed military conflict. With the end of World War II in 1945 began the Cold War. There were a post-war negotiation by three of the strongest world powers, the United States, Britain, and the Union Soviet socialist Republics. The United States and the Union Soviet socialist Republics were both reluctant to settle their conflicts, there disagreement had evolved to create tension between them being inevitable. Both United States and Soviet Union were two mainly powerful countries in the cold war with the orthodox historians as well as first generation historians blame the Union Soviet Socialist Republic for the whole war .The cold war was
Prison overcrowding is a serious issue that is rapidly growing in the United States. Since the 19th Century it has been plaguing the criminal justice system and has rolled over to our modern prison system. Overcrowding is more complex than what people see on the outside looking in. There are multiple reasons that contribute to the increase population of inmates. Throughout the years, there has been an ongoing debate on what the causes are and how they can be improved. Since the early years, prison populations have been rising at an enormous rate. There are numerous causes and little is being done about it. Some of these causes are the increase rate of previous criminals returning after being released, more criminal offenses are being added to the penal code, “war on drugs”, “truth in sentencing”, harsher penalties and there is a shift from sentencing being indeterminate to determinate. These are just a few examples that are contaminating our system today. Overcrowding is becoming a problem because it does not just put pressure on the inmates, it put pressure on the staff as well.
... advanced computing, with specific reference to Computer Programming. I therefore believe that I must return to the academic world for further growth and achieve some more milestones.
As crime rates began to soar in the 80’s it became evident that the police needed a new model to follow. Many Americans also felt that police departments around the country needed improvement and thus community policing began to be implemented. The public began to feel that they were not only susceptible to be victims of crime but also unruly behavior (Allender). The philosophy of community policing viewed officers as more than just a crime fighter but also a part of a social service with many different functions and goals. The new goals were to not only reduce crime but help eliminate it and increase the quality of life in many communities, including some that felt they had been overlooked or treated differently, such as different minority neighborhoods. Not only would officers do their typical day to day duties such as daily patrols and responding to 911 calls, but they would also use their discretion to help respond to social issues and other problems in the areas they patrol (Patterson). In community policing effectiveness of the police is not only measure by crime statistics and emergency response times, but also measurements of the partnerships and inclusions that they have built within the communities (Allen and Sawhney,
In my community policing appears to be the surface focus. In judging the value of police strategies in keeping crime intact, however one should not be misled by the eloquence or merely expressed allegiance to the goal one must keep one 's eye out for the effectiveness of achieving the goal. Crime fighters rely mostly on three factors which are the motorized patrol, fast response to calls and investigation of crimes. Over the past years police responsiveness has been intensified by connecting police to citizens by radios, matching police officers schedules and location.
In summary, an electrical engineering career can be difficult to obtain if you are not focused and determined. The qualification requirements for jobs may seem impossible to achieve, but many times employers will work with applicants on some issues. Even though the government has predicted only a 5% growth through 2022 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014) doesn’t mean that the advancement of technologies in the near future could increase that rate due to demand.
A relatively recent method of getting Police Departments more involved in their communities is through what is known as C.O.P or “community orientated policing.” Community orientated policing is a philosophy that guides police management style and operational strategy, and emphasizes the establishment and creation of a police-community partnerships a...
Being well acknowledged about the above saying has pushed me a mile further for every aspect of my life. The four year engineering course in Information Technology has always been a beautiful experience and has inspired me to put the knowledge into my Masters degree. This would allow me to enhance my knowledge about technology and its pros and cons and the guidance I would need. Gone are those days when man had to slog for simple works, he has advanced into boundaries which are unimaginable and has made his life easy, being an essential part of such an advancement has always been my motive. To attain my goal, my first priority would be in the field of research which will consist experiencing the applications in the real world steered by comprehensive know-how about technology. Technology has prevailed and casted its spell to parts unknown and now has been imbibed into man.
As an engineering student, design, develop and test electrical equipments is the major purpose of all time. In other words, electrical engineer is concerned with using electricity to transmit electric power. In electrical engineering, there are extensive subfields such as power engineering, control system and signal processing. It is also worth to point out the difference between electrical engineering and electronic engineering. According to the research, electronic engineering is a major that deal with the electronic system such as computers and radar, to be more specific, electronic engineers are concerned with using electricity to process information.
