It seems that he has the upper hand in every situation. This statement however, is a reflection of weakness. His destruction stems from the inability to accept Claudius as father. More importantly though, his mother's rush to remarry has caused more of inflated persona in Hamlet. His inability to interact with the people around him makes room for a lot of debate. Despite the estrangement, Hamlet is able to expose truths about his nature with Gertrude and Horatio. Gertrude, for whom he related the above quote, is the most intriguing to examine. One way of seeing this hypocrisy, in the case of the physician's tale, is to examine the way the similarities and differences between the knight Virginius and the physician himself in terms of what he sees as moral actions. It seems fairly clear that the physician identifies himself with Virginius during the telling of the tale. One of the main ways in which the physician identifies with Virginius is by sharing his concern for Virginia's future state of virtue. He shows his concern with Virginia's future by speculating on whether she will continue to be "a thousand foold moore vertuous" than she is beautiful -- as she is at the beginning of the tale -- when she "woxen is a wyf" (VI.40; VI.71). Virginius shows his concern for his daughter's virtue by killing her rather than allowing her chastity to be compromised; the physician shows that he believes it necessary for a father to guard his daughter's virtue in a long comment (VI.71-104) describing a father's duty to have his daughter watched over by governesses, or "maistresses" (VI.71).
The children in the story embrace more of the American culture than a native culture with the use of the comic characters. The little girl tends to struggle understanding her grandmothers cultural heritage, and it seems to take her quite a bit of effort doing it. The children seem to be content playing and carrying on without the bother of what the grandmother is doing, and they have no references to heroes of their native culture.

The first soliloquy allows the reader to initially delve into the character of Hamlet, by showing his anger and distaste towards his mother. The soliloquy also shows that, even through his anger, he is in a coherent state of mind.

In Milton's Paradise Lost, the two images of sex in Books IV and IX sharply contrast one another in order to show the dichotomy of love and lust. The first act of sex is seen in Book IV and represents holy love. Before going into their bower, Adam and Eve make sure to praise God. This awe for their maker is seen when Adam and Eve "both stood,/Both turned, and under open sky adored/The God that made both sky, air, earth and Heav'n" (IV. 720-2). Even the heavens are in unison with Adam and Eve's love. While Eve decorates their "nuptial bed," there are "heaven'ly choirs" singing the "hymnenean sung" (IV. 709, -10). This love of Adam and Eve's is not "loveless, joyless, unendeared" but instead is "loyal, just, and pure" (IV. 766, 755). After their sacred act of sex, Adam and Eve are enraptured with joy and peace. They are "lulled by nightingales" and fall asleep naked, embracing one another (IV. 771). All is perfect in Paradise, but not for long.

Because it has become so familiar, death is no longer a frightening presence, but a comforting companion. Despite this, Dickinson is still not above fear, showing that nothing is static and even the most resolute person is truly sure of anything. This point is further proven in “I heard a Fly buzz”, where a fly disrupts the last moment of Dickinson’s life. The fly is a symbol of death, and of uncertainty, because though it represents something certain—her impending death—it flies around unsure with a “stumbling buzz”.
