Ego. too much and you're a pretentious snob, and too little and you lose the drive for life. Anthem is a novella set in futuristic times where the word “I” is prohibited. the citizens are seen as a part of a society instead of individuals with aspiring dreams. Prometheus was different from the rest, he wanted to live a life of freedom and fulfillment. He took a daring step and presented a box of electricity to The House of Scholars. only in this society it was against the law to go your own way and be different from the rest.instantly he was met with narrow minded people when showing his invention.

Equality 7-2521 had always been different from his brothers. When in the Home of the Students, his teachers frowned upon him. He liked learning and asks so many questions that soon it was forbidden; he was too agile and bright compared to his peers. Making him stand out like a sore thumb among his society. At one point he tried to delay his mind and block out any new information in order to fit in . Soon, he learned that he doesn't have the ability to conform his mind to his liking, he was just naturally quicker than the rest. Equality 7-2521 also physically appear different . Towering over the others, he stood up straight. Unlike the rest who were torn down by society and caused you a feeling of despair for them. "There is evil in your bones, Equality 7-2521, for your body has grown beyond the bodies of your brothers."(18) ; He wanted to find answers that Scholars had not dared explore wishing he could belong to the House Of Scholars. The Underground tunnel was his sanctuary, where he was able to examine the Earth. In time, Equality 7-2521 started to accept himself. Being a street sweeper was soon a impediment to him b...

...better. In the Anthem’s society they say that the brothers are the state. That everything should be done by the brothers for the brothers. However, they never consider who the brothers are nor did they care. Prometheus saw this and wanted to be better for his brothers. THerefore, threatening society because no one was to be superior to another. His goals were driven by what he wanted for himself and the state. Although, he wasn't dedicated to the state he was merely doing what was best for him. The state didn't want these ideas and infect their citizens. Not to mention that the citizens would start thinking for themselves. They would revolt in order to get their natural rights. Like John Locke had stated: men had the natural right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Prometheus threatened to destroy their whole society with him being their leader.
