All over the planet, animals are locked in cages, away from their habitat and against their will, in testing laboratories where they just seat defenseless and in fear for the unknown. It is a common practice that animals are used for medical testing in order to find compatibility chemicals to either, cure certain diseases, or as simple as hair products and skin cosmetics. The use of these types of chemicals in animals is to prevent testing on humans and cause some type of injury due to incompatible organism with the human body. Many of these testing have provided, what is to be called “successful solutions” to diseases such as Cancer and AIDS. Unfortunately, after decades, there are not yet confirmed cures to both Cancer and AIDS, but only treatments to prolong the life of the patients or suppress their pain. These symptoms and treatments also have alternatives from products that were found by testing from different plants as opposed to the cost of many animal lives and their sufferings. Hayhurst provides details as to how “Scientists use animals for many different purposes. They are used to test the safety and effectiveness of new drugs before those drugs are given to people to treat illness and disease. Animals are used to ensure the ingredients in the foods we eat are safe for consumption. They are also used to test products like eye shadow, lipstick, contact lens solution, and shampoo, as well as chemicals ranging from lawn fertilizer to caffeine.” (Hayhurst 2000). These test lab animals often do not pass their numerous testing and, after suffering, they die. In addition, must of the animals used for testing to find cures or treatment for certain disease, are actually contaminated with the disease in order for the lab ... ... middle of paper ... ...s put in danger, it should be consider illegal. Successful solutions used in humans from animal testing prove compatibility between the human body and animals. Therefore, why do we have to treat them any different than we treat humans? The practice of animal testing is clearly violating the rights of the animals. I believe that in order to improve our quality of live, we need to care more for our society. Showing respect for the lives of our animals will allows us to develop the respect for our human kind which is so limited these days. If we practice the respect for our nature, as well as our animals, we will have a more peaceful environment and enjoy a longer life span. Works Cited Haugen, David M.. (Eds.) Animals should not be used as test subjects for any research. The innocent and helpless animals’ rights are being violated when they are involved during animal experimentation. These unfortunate animals do not have a choice whether or not they want to be involved in testing. They are not intended for people to experiment on for their own selfish reasons. It is not right to take advantage of the animals because they are helpless and cannot protect themselves. Animals and humans have similarities; they both behave, feel, think, and experience pain. Therefore, animals should be treated with the same respect as humans. The pain and suffering an animal is forced to endure is not worth any new product. It is cruel and inhumane to take advantage of an innocent animal. These tests that use animals to ensure the safety of products are extremely common without people even knowing about it. It is not fair to these animals to abuse their beauty. They are helpless and cannot control what is happening to them. Animal experimentation should be stopped because it violates the rights of animals and harms or even kills the animals.
The information that animals have provided scientists over the past decades has changed society, and is still changing society for the better. Millions of lives have been saved with the use of animal testing and many more will be saved with continued research. However, there are many who dismiss this monumental achievement completely and oppose the use of animals in laboratory research. Though many find this practice to be
There is a moral blind spot in the treatment of animals that enable us to justify the cruelties for the perceived benefits of humans. Animals are living things. They have lungs which breathe, hearts which beat, and blood that flows. In fact, animals sense of smell, sight, and sound is much more acute than our own. Therefore, we can assume that their sensitivity to pain is at least equal to ours. According to Hippocrates, “The soul is the same in all living creatures, although the body of each is different.” This can go with the Duty Theory that states that every individual gets treated the same. The intentions of animal testing is not to harm the animals, but that is exactly what it does.
Over 100 Million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused in testing Labs every year. Animals are used to test the safety of products, advance scientific research, and develop models to study disease and to develop new medical treatments all for the sake of mankind. Animals should not be used for scientific research because animal testing is inhumane, other testing methods now exist, and animals are very different from human beings.
According to the California Biomedical Research Association, almost every medical advancement in the last 100 years is a direct result of animal testing and research. The use of animals has become standard procedure in a wide range of testing and experimentation, including product toxicity testing, biomedical and veterinary experiments, drug development and testing, and education. Major advancements in treating and understanding chronic conditions such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, malaria, and tuberculosis, have been achieved due to animal research. Also, the development of pacemakers, cardiac valve substitutes, and anesthetics are also direct results of the testing and observation of animals. On the other hand, many people believe that animal testing is cruel and inhumane. In many laboratories animals are subjected to force feeding, food and water deprivation, physical restraints, and infliction of pain. Because the animals cannot protect themselves, many people argue that exploiting animals to better the lives of humans is wrong and should not be permitted.
Each year millions of animals around the world are being killed and tormented for tests
It should be noted that, animals are metabolically, physiologically, and anatomically unlike from human beings, hence, the tests working on animals can surely prove to be unsuccessful in human beings (Animal Experimentation). Animals react very differently compared to human beings, and therefore, tests done on animals can be hazardous when done on human beings. In addition, even though humans and animals share a number of biological traits, they have biological differences and this is enough reason to question the data obtained from animal experiments and is to be used on humans. It is very wrong to subject animals to cruel procedures in the name of promoting the future human health and this denies them a normal life, yet they are at liberty to yet there is no prove that these tests can work well on human beings. For example, guinea pigs are used in animal experimentation, yet a guinea pig and a human being react very differently to some drugs, for instance penicillin is toxic to a guinea pig, and a cure to human beings. This proves that, any test done on a guinea pig will automatically be unsafe for human beings. Another example is that, drugs that are effective on dogs, or other animals can fail to be effective on human beings. Therefore, it is important to note that, animal testing has its
In modern society, animal experimentation has triggered a controversy; consequently, vast amount of protests have been initiated by the animal rights community. Although these organizations have successfully broadcast their concerns toward animal experimentation, its application continues to survive. Sally Driscoll and Laura Finley inform that there remain fifty million to one-hundred million animals that experience testing or experimentation throughout the world on a yearly basis. But despite opposition, animal experimentation, the use of experiments on animals in order to observe the effects an unknown substance has on living creatures, serves multiple purposes. Those particular purposes are: research of the living body, the testing of products, and the advancement of medicine.
The ethics behind using animals for experiments and tests has been questioned and debated for years. Many people believe that animal experimentations can be crucial towards medical breakthroughs such as the cure for cancer, HIV/AIDS or asthma. Meanwhile others argue that animals that are used to test cosmetics such as make-up and perfumes are inhuman because is not going to help improve the human race. Animals suffer through multiple types of torture such as being forced to ingest poisonous chemicals, blinded, burned, stapled, and infected with disease viruses. Even though animal experimentation may be considered inhumane to many, animal experimentation is crucial to advancements in medical research and can lead to a better quality of life; on the other hand, animal experimentation should not be used to develop cosmetics because such experimentation is cruel and unnecessary.
Although this seems wrong, it is the ultimate necessity for human safety in cosmetic use. Animals have been used in cosmetic safety testing primarily because they share similarities to humans. They are quick and easy to use because they live short lives and are easily accessible. Most animals are raised only for testing, and experimentation is really all that they know. So
Hundreds and millions of animals are killed everyday due to animal testing. The number of animal deaths in labs have halved since the 1970’s. An animal dies in a Canadian lab every 16 seconds! The contemporary scale of animal deaths due to animal testing is unacceptable! 17-22 million animals are tested on each year and at least half are put to death. 2.5 million animals are killed due to animal testing at the Great Britain Zoo every year. Animal testing essentially involves harming or killing the animals, every year so many innocent animals are put to death on behalf of our a...
In conclusion, animal testing not only violates animals’ rights but also is not the best way to research. And the genes are different between animals and humans. Humans need to improve their ways to get the scientific experience and forbid animal testing in order to improve our lives and animals’ lives.
vivisection Animal Research and Testing, Is it Ethical? “It is a simple fact that many, if not most, of today’s modern medical miracles would not exist if experimental animals had not been available to medical scientists. It is equally a fact that, should we as a society decide the use of animal subjects is ethically unacceptable and therefore must be stopped, medical progress will slow to a snail’s pace. Such retardation will in itself have a huge ethical ‘price tag’ in terms of continued human and animal suffering from problems such as diabetes, cancer, degenerative cardiovascular diseases, and so forth.” Dr. Simmonds, a veterinarian who specializes in the care of laboratory animals, is one of many who believe that animal testing is an ethical practice.
However, as people think about animal rights, and the news that animals are suffering in the experiment, people began to consider stopping all animal testing. Animal testing should not be banned, because it both benefits humans and animals, especially the medical animal testing should be reserved. According to the book “Science, Medicine, and Animals” by the Committee on the Use of Animals in Research, National Academy of Sciences (1991), the animals also provide protection to a lot of endangered animals. Scientists can invent medicine, which is used to treat animal diseases, from animal experiments.
They are used in the medical industry to test chemicals, ingredients, prototypes, or formulas on animals to see if it 's damaging to their flesh. About 50 to 100 million animals are used for animal testing around the world every year. Those animals are either born into testing, obtain in the wild, bought from breeders, or brought from the pound. Places that provide animal testing can be found in some universities, medical schools, farms, big companies, and many more locations. Some medicines are tested on animals. In the process of testing the medicine on them, they must first select a sick animal or make it sick to begin the process of figuring out whether the medicine works or not. When Toxicity testing, it tends to test on a degree of how much it can harm a living thing or a non-living thing. They use animals to mimic the effect on humans when exposed to such
