There are many civilizations in history that contributed to the rise of modern day society. All of the things that we see today have been in some way shape or form improved upon to stand the test of time. From the structures of buildings, religion and pyramids, to the influence of art, it all played a part. The ancient civilization of the Egyptians was one of the most significant and well known cultures to ever have existed and technology wise, they were light years ahead. The ancient Egyptians relied heavily on their religion. In addition to their religion, the Osiris myth was famous among the people because it implied that any deceased individual can get to the afterlife. The deceased would endure a ritual of mummification. Their organs would be taken out and placed in jars except for the heart. The body would be embalmed and stuffed with linen. Then they would be placed inside their burial chamber with a lot of valuables to take to the afterlife. This process was mostly done for the wealthy. They were polytheist who means that they believed in numerous amounts of Gods and Goddesses. They believed that each God or goddess was in control of different aspects in the world such as the weather, water, sun, plants and animals. Worshipping all of the Gods equally was not a requirement in their religion. Some of the Gods even have animal heads to show the connection of the animal and its nature. “Some gods and goddesses took part in creation, some brought the flood every year, some offered protection, and some took care of the people after they died. The ancient Egyptians believed that it was important to recognize and worship these gods and goddesses so that life continued smoothly. “(The British Museum, 1999) The art of ancient Eg... ... middle of paper ... ...ivilizations do, they peaked and then declined. The relics that have been preserved are now our treasures to study and analyze. They developed a language system, built pyramids and statues, painted pictures and hieroglyphics on walls and papyrus. Now we honor their culture by learning about them in school and displays in museums. Hopefully when our civilization is gone, whoever inhabits the earth next will pass on our history and story.
