Desmond’s arguments and assertions are encompassed on the fact that there is a perceived opposition between culture and nature. In addition, the former is represented as a dominantly biased relationship engrained in many cultures in their endeavors to cultivate and nature a tourism effective atmosphere. This opposition goes further to adversely influence our portrayal and treatment of nature and its inhabitants including habitats of the sea world such as whales. Desmond (2013) argues that through the critical analysis of literature as well as their study, we can deconstruct this opposition and that this operative or rather strategy is inevitable if we are to, by any chance avoid any ecosphere catastrophe. This discussion examines the influence of realism and authenticity as well as naturalism on our conception of nature. The Blackfish documentary is one such film that explores the coexistent and activities surrounding the whale family. Whales are an important symbol of the natural world and their interaction with human being indicate the existing attitude of human beings towards the natural world in general. Jane Desmond’s thoughts, which have affinities in Industries of species, offer a cogent approach to this Eco critical response.
Analyzing Black Fish Documentary reveals a hurdle and an intense disjunction or opposition to the Eco critical theory. However, an Eco critical analysis or theory so to say is essential in the modern day society, particularly in modern Western Society, parallel with the increasing need to examine the treatment of environments at a time of a booming tourism industry (Desmond 2013). Moreover, there could be three propositions to this film; one is that tapping financial gain from live wildlife performance could lead to chaos or at its worst death as evidenced from the death of the trainer. Tilikum, the Sea World Whale is taken into captivity in Orlando Florida. Unfortunately, three people, including two trainers and a man who apparently, happens to trespass on SeaWorld, Orlando’s property. Tilikum drags Brancheau, one of the trainers, into the water while performing one of the live shows. Although, the Safety and Health Administration fined Orlando Park, its issued statement nullified the findings of the Administration. This is a true representation of capitalism; two, experience has already detached from nature, and finally, performances may at the end be meaningful and communicable but on the other end be catastrophic (Desmond 2013).
Clearly, the captive of the killer whale for a live performance transforms and reveals a chaotic nature of such animals (Desmond 2013).
