Tearfund is a Christian aid organization, they work with various other churches to try and destroy poverty, transform unfortunate lives and bring integrity and equality in this world. It was unofficially started by numerous sympathetic Christians who decided to send funds to the Evangelical Alliance who sent gifts of money, clothing and food to refugees all around the world. Basically, The Evangelical Alliance was set up to manage the aid that needed to be given to refugees. Later on in 1968, the organization, Tearfund was officially started when they changed the name from The Evangelical Alliance Relief Fund to Tearfund. Tearfund’s aim from the very beginning was to meet the physical and religious needs of those who are disadvantaged and suffer from relative and absolute poverty. This is all explained clearly in Tearfund’s mission statement “Glorify God by extending his Kingdom in ministry to the poor, oppressed and disadvantaged, and to encourage God's people in the world to live out the values and principles of his Kingdom, by sharing with those in need.” Furthermore, they follow this particular teaching from the Bible, "Seek justice, and encourage the oppressed" - Isaiah 1:17. Tearfund carries out various works which help the unfortunate when under harsh circumstances such as dealing with the various problems that occurs when natural disasters strike, overcoming diseases, re-establishing the parts of the environment which are affected by climate change, getting to the bottom of financial inequality and improving basic services to improve life for those who don’t have access to them. Tearfund puts such efforts into these schemes because they believe the deprived are the ones who are affected the most by these circumstances, ... ... middle of paper ... ...erall, Being one of the most successful and leading organizations in this world, I believe Tear Fund has succeeded in transforming a lot of unfortunate lives for the better by simply following the teachings from the Bible. I think this is a great achievement and hope Tearfund will start partnerships with many other organizations who are also striving to improve this rather corrupt world. If I were to ask three questions to someone who worked for Tearfund I would ask them if they would at any point accept a non-Christian into their organization if they had the potential to contribute a lot, would they join with other religious groups to improve a certain community and my last question would be to ask them their opinion on what they believe every single person should do regularly to improve this world. In 1630, the Massachusetts Bay Company set sail to the New World in hope of reforming the Church of England. While crossing the Atlantic, John Winthrop, the puritan leader of the great migration, delivered perhaps the most famous sermon aboard the Arbella, entitled “A Model of Christian Charity.” Winthrop’s sermon gave hope to puritan immigrants to reform the Church of England and set an example for future immigrants. The Puritan’s was a goal to get rid of the offensive features that Catholicism left behind when the Protestant Reformation took place. Under Puritanism, there was a constant strain to devote your life to God and your neighbors. Unlike the old England, they wanted to prove that New England was a community of love and individual worship to God. Therefore, they created a covenant with God and would live their lives according to the covenant. Because of the covenant, Puritans tried to abide by God’s law and got rid of anything that opposed their way of life. Between 1630 and the 18th century, the Puritans tried to create a new society in New England by creating a covenant with God and living your life according to God’s rule, but in the end failed to reform the Church of England. By the mid 1630’s, threats to the Puritans such as Roger Williams, Anne Hutchinson, and Thomas Hooker were being banned from the Puritan community for their divergent beliefs. 20 years later, another problem arose with the children of church members and if they were to be granted full membership to the church. Because of these children, a Halfway Covenant was developed to make them “halfway” church members. And even more of a threat to the Puritan society was their notion that they were failing God, because of the belief that witches existed in 1692.
Reach Out WorldWide (“ROWW”) was started by a group of 6 men in California. They who flew to Haiti and volunteered to help in whatever way they could after a massive earthquake devastated the country on January 12, 2010. While working in Haiti as medical aid volunteers the group recognized the need for skilled people, supplies and urgency for a faster response when natural disasters strike. After returning to the United States from Haiti the 6 men, Lucas Wimer, Paul Walker, Jesse Brisendine, Dave Marquez, Christian Urzua and John Cloughton formed ROWW. The foundation of the organization was built upon the experiences they had while in Haiti. ROWW was born from a simple idea which recognized the need for an immediate response to people in need and; that by working together they could make a difference. "You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” is a quote by John Bunyan that the founders of ROWW each believe.
When deciding on which non-profit organization to give resources to, a person must think of a number of questions that need to be answered in which to choose a certain one. The most pertinent of these questions is the one that asks which cause the person cares about the most. The problem, for a majority of the population, is that they just do not know what they truly care about. That is why the United Way is the best option for donations. The United way does not focus on one specific, but instead works for a variety of different causes focused on fixing some of the different problems inside of the United States. The United Way is an organization, which envisions a world where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability and healthy lives. It plans to do this by improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good. The United Way needs money and time in order to achieve some of these goals. This essay will explain why the United Way is the best organization to give ones resources to.
For over seven years this video has been bringing its audience to tears through the use of many different methods. These methods are meant to emotionally compromise the viewers so in the end they will feel sympathetic towards that cause and eventually donate money. The effectiveness of this commercial is proven by the fact that the organization has made millions since the commercial was first aired.
The essay, “A Christian World View,” by Mickenzie Neely seeks to address some major themes that pertain to a Christian worldview. The essay, in summary, states that “serving others, accepting and giving grace, sacrifice, and justice are all essential to living for Christ.” This essay was presented in a way in which she used facts and scriptures from the Bible to support her point. This paper will analysis Neely’s main arguments and will evaluate my opinion of her writing. The main topics that apply to my Christian worldview are love, service, grace and forgiving.
The official mission statement for the House of Compassion is “Called by our faith in Jesus Christ to act in love, the House of Compassion responds to the needs of our neighbors and advocates justice and dignity for all” (Frohwein, 2013). While on earth so much of Jesus ministry was focused on healing, feeding, clothing, and lifting up the marginalized. He feed and healed people before he professed to them that he was the Bread of Life and the Messiah. This is way it is important that we too are willing to feed and clot...

Christian Response to Third World Poverty and Injustice b) Every disciple, every authentic Christian, must be on the road: not yet arrived or perfect, but moving, striving, falling and restarting in hope, and this ethos applies to the tackling of Third World poverty and injustice. Over one billion people are living in poverty today. The gap between rich and poor is getting wider. All over the world, disparities between rich and poor, even in the wealthiest of nations is rising sharply.
During week two, we discussed the history of social work. It was interesting to learn about the different organized which took place then, and some still occur. The “Charity Organization Society viewed poor as dysfunctional within a well functioning society” (Akesson, B. 2015). Specifically, what I found irrational, yet interesting was whom people of these organizations found “deserving” and “undeserving” poor, because I have also viewed those in poverty as “deserving” of help, no matter the circumstances. I believe you can’t characterize someone as deserving or undeserving based on their social status, and characteristics. Everyone has should have a chance at improving their well being whether they are a single parent, drug addict, struggling with disability and so on. If someone is striving to repair damages, and gain assistance they shouldn’t be stigmatized or judged to do so otherwise. Everyone has a story behind their faults, which should be recognized and counseled in order to solve the issue regarding
"The purpose of developing a Christian view of the world is not merely to evaluate and judge the world, but to change it," (Boa, 2004). Having a Christian worldview is hard enough in American but add in the entire world and it can be a little trickier. Thinking Christianly has a major impact on how someone would do business overseas, in a global economy. When it comes to a Christian worldview in a global economy there are numerous issues that can come up. Different countries and cultures have different things that they deem acceptable; however, when you are looking at it from a Christian standpoint you may have to handle things in a different manner. Just because something is acceptable or legal in the world does not make it acceptable to someone with a Christian worldview. John 17:17 says that, "The word is truth," so when one is looking for direction and guidance in any aspect of business he will always know that the word of God is truth that he can turn to. Although the field of business has many negative connotations with Christianity there are also positive ones. There are two main issues that this paper will address. The first issue, pollution, can be view negatively. The second issue, job opportunities, can be view positively.
In his article, the author Peter Singer presents valid points within his work in a way that provokes one to question their morals and ethics. He rationalizes the gift of donation in an unconventional but motivating manor. The purpose of “The Singer Solution to World Poverty” is to encourage people to reevaluate his or her ability to contribute to the underprivileged people of the world. Singer is addressing this article to any person with the ability to donate. The author makes it clear that nearly everyone has the ability to make a difference is others lives. Additionally, in “The Singer Solution to World Poverty”, the author explain that we have a duty to give, but he is not stating whether it is a duty of justice in Narveson’s sense. He is not stating if would be morally correct for anyone to force us or impose to us to give to the needy. This author is trying to persuade or convince people to give voluntarily. The author is not enforcing to do something, this is contrary to Narveson’s position “enforced fee”. “The Singer Solution to World Poverty” addresses the urgency for a more generous world. Peter Singer presents valid points within his work in a way that provokes one to question their morals and ethics. He rationalizes the gift of donation in an unconventional but motivating manor. The main purpose of “The Singer Solution to World Poverty” is to
In most cases, shortage of money is not the sole problem. Rather, poverty is a mere term summarised by a sophisticated factors of corruption, lack of infrastructure, civil unrest, government failure, and many more. Especially, donated money are regularly spent to run campaigns, provide wages to staffs, and to run the charities, with a very few of the amount being invested directly to help the poor. This socio-political scepticism can be worse as some believe that charity is merely a band aid fix to the deeper underlying problem that is continuously causing the poverty, and it only becomes the basis for local communities to be dependent on
The non-charitable organisations objective embedded within its mission statement is to work with all its partners towards the attainment of the sustainable human development goals adopted by the world community and the realisation of the vision of peace and social progress enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. UNICEF was created with the purpose of working with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path, thus advancing the cause of humanity.
