The idea to colonize Mars is thought to be a long shot but researchers believe it is possible. It’s crazy to think that one day there could be another planet like Earth. However, the researchers for the Mars-one program have been figuring out ways to do it. Mars is about 35 million miles away from the earth so one of the hardest parts of it all will be getting there (UCSB). To successfully colonize Mars you need to know; how to get there, who would go, and how to survive once you’re there.
A lot of people think since Mars is much farther than the Moon that is would take a bigger spaceship to get there but this is not true. Researchers say that Mars can be reached with a small spaceship, like the one that took astronauts to the Moon, which would be launched directly to Mars (Zubrin). “According to Mars One’s mission plan, it will begin sending up unmanned craft by 2018, to establish a base and communications center, followed in 2022 by unmanned craft with settler supplies and also robots to begin assembling water and oxygen processing equipment” (Jordan). This process will then be repeated once the first crew reaches the Red Planet in 2025 (Jordan). The Mars One program believes it will need around $6 billion to send the four inhabitants to start the Mars colony and $4 billion to launch each of the following crews (Moskowirz). The timing of the launch needs to be at a time when Earth and Mars are an optimal distance to one another, however this only happens every 26 months and since Mars is much farther than the Moon, the journey would take around 8 months (Stoltz). The main thing that will make this a success is following a “travel light and live off the land” strategy (Zubrin). The plan to approach Mars like this is called “Mars...

The Martian Chronicles is a collection of short stories by Ray Bradbury These stories all relate to the idea of humans visiting mars, but are only connected by the loosest of threads. At times, it can appear as if Bradbury was grasping mercilessly, searching for something to draw together the random conglomeration of human situations his mind had created individually. The entity that embraced all these stories and melded them from half-hour kiddy-show format stories into a great two-hour special feature novel was the forth planet from the sun, earth's neighbor and Bradbury's stage for The Martian Chronicles, mars.

Mars is our next best hope in life on another planet. Because of science mankind can grow and harvest plants in the modified mars soil, make a thick warm atmosphere, and drink no frozen mars water. Mankind can grow and flourish more as a species with this idea of colonizing mars. With more scientific advancements we can colonize mars and we will colonize mars.
There has long been interest in the exploration of Mars. More missions have been attempted to Mars than to any other place in solar system except the Moon, and half of the attempts failed. However, the early exploration attempts taught us many lessons that made subsequent missions more successful. Since 1995, Mars exploration has undergone a renaissance. NASA has successfully launched four orbiters and four landed missions. These missions provided data and images that changed our view of planet Mars. One of the more successful landed missions on Mars is the Mars Exploration Rover- Opportunity. Opportunity was launched in July 7, 2003 and landed on Mars on January 25, 2004.
Scientists have dreamt over the possibility that it may be possible to live on another planet. The recent events regarding the NASA Mars probes have renewed the debate of reinstalling manned space missions with the objectives of exploring and landing on foreign worlds such as the moon and the red planet Mars, rather than the use of solely robotic craft and machines. It is my belief that we should return to the days of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, those of manned lunar landings and manned space exploration. Robots simply cannot and should not be allowed to be the sole means of visiting these worlds, nor should humans only be able to witness new findings second hand through the use of computers and machines. It is human nature to be normally curious of one’s surroundings, and it is important that we send one of our own to new worlds. The effects that past missions have had on the world’s people, as well as our political and cultural climates are another valid reason for flesh instead of metal to lay claim to space. Also, the limitless applications and new education that manned flights can bring to us from on site human interactions could lead to another technological and industrial revolution like the original lunar programs had done for us during the Gemini and Apollo programs.
Robert Zubrin, an engineer that is working for Lockheed Martin, suggests that NASA should send humans to Mars, instead of machines. Machines are too limited in what they can accomplish, and humans need to be there to make up for what machines are incapable of doing (Easton 170). He brings up the point that Lewis and Clark did not spend the time or the resources to even try to take enough food and supplies to last them the entire time that they were exploring new lands.
