The Storm Every storm creeps upon us, hits a luminous climax, and then fades away into nothingness. We all experience thunder and lightening in our lives remaining “purified air”. It brings something rejuvenating and refreshing to our life. In the short story,”The Storm”, written by Kate Chapin on July 19, 1898 introduces us to Calixta who “coincidently” meets her old lover alone at home due to an upcoming storm and awakens old passions and desires. The short story is told by a 3rd person narrator who focuses on the two main protagonists Calixta and Alcée. The narrator begins to describe Calixta as a worrisome wife, who is married to Bobinot and together they have a son called Bibi. “Calixta, at home, felt no uneasiness for their safety. She sat at a side window sewing furiously on a sewing machine.” As the storm approaches and Alcée finds shelter at Calixtas home, Alceé notices her for the first time in five years, the description shifts to her youthful beauty.
