EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Every company had its own way of doing business and mitigating risks. I am most intrigued by Siemens Diagnostics and GE Healthcare. Hence, I will analyze these two successful companies. Siemens Diagnostics operates in the healthcare industry and is located in Swords, County Dublin, Ireland. It provides equipment for immunoassay, hematology, molecular analysis and blood gas testing systems along with automation, informatics and other services. GE Healthcare specializes in medical imaging and information technologies, medical diagnostics, patient monitoring systems, drug discovery, biopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies, performance improvement and performance solutions services that helps their customers to deliver better care to more people around the world at a lower cost. Siemens Diagnostics produces ADVIA Centaur XP( an immunoassay equipment to detect cancer and heart diseases and fertility testing) and ADVIA 2120i(Hematology system to count WBCs and RBCs). The type of industry it is in makes it prone to risks like Long Development Cycles, Long Product Lifecycles, Low Volumes of Production, and Lower Levels of Manufacturing Automation. Its products are complex with multiple interacting parts. Also the type of products that Siemens manufacturers need raw materials that have limited suppliers. GE Healthcare produces imaging agents like Omnipaque, Visipaque and Omniscan in glass and plastic containers of different sizes. The risks faced by them are Rise in IT budgets, limited raw materials and high lead time of a drug. Both the organizations need huge investments in R&D as the quality of their products can affect human safety. They have their own set of initiatives in place to manage risks. Irrespective of how well prepared and organized an organization is there are always chances of sudden issues.
