The Hundred Years War didn’t last exactly a hundred years. It actually lasted for 116 years. All the battles were fought in France (Alchin). The war consisted of two countries to start, France and England, but was later joined by Burgundy (Alchin). Despite England winning most of the battles, the French wouldn’t give up and were victorious. According to ehistory.com, the 100 Years War was a series of chevauchees, sieges and naval battles interspersed with truces and uneasy peace. In 911, Carlolingian Charles the Simple allowed the Viking Rollo to settle in a part of his kingdom. William the Conqueror (Duke of Normandy) led the “Normans” into the Battle of Hastings, defeated the Anglo-Saxon leadership, and conquered England; allowing him to install a new Anglo-Norman power structure. Even after the Norman leaders became kings in England, they were vassals to the King of France. A period of civil wars and unrest, known as The Anarchy (1135-1154), led to the succession of the Anglo-Norman dynasty by the Angevin Kings. The Angevins controlled Normandy and England, along with Maine, Anjou, Touraine, Gascony, Saintonge and Aquitaine. The King of England ruled more French territory than the King of France. This was a cause of continual conflict. The French somewhat resolved the situation in three decisive wars. These wars included the Conquest of Normandy (1214), the Saintonge War (1242) and the War of Saint-Sardos in 1324. This reduced England’s hold on the continent to a few small provinces in Gascony and the complete loss of the crown jewel of Normandy. In the 14th century, many members in the English aristocracy could still remember a time when their grandparents and great-grandparents controlled wealthy continental regions and were... ... middle of paper ... ...e steak (Alchin). The Hundred years war lasted 116 years. It was a difficult time for both sides. There were many kings throughout the war. Just when the French thought they had been defeated, they were saved by a brave young woman. A peace treaty did not conclude the war. It died out because the English realized that the French troops were too strong to be directly confronted (History.com). Works cited Laidig, Scott. “ehistory.” ehistory.osu.edu. The French and Indian war, also better known as the seven year war, was in 1754. It all began in the early spring of 1754 through 1763, when George Washington and some 160 Virginians and hand full of Mingo Indians started to move when they were concerned about the French military presence in their county. The battle first started when a Mingo chief, the Indian leader that was with George Washington in his campaign, led a unit of soldiers into a small French encampment in the woods. It was a very small battle but, the fight ended up with 14 French men wounded. While Washington was trying to get all the available information from their French dying commander to help their plans in the war, the Indians killed and scalped the remaining survivors including the commander.
King William's War, which occurred from between 1689 to 1697, was the first of a series of colonial conflicts between France and England for supremacy in North America. It started when King William III of England allied himself with the League of Augsburg; certain German states, Spain, Sweden, Austria, and the Netherlands,; to oppose French expansion. In America, King William¡¯s War, or otherwise called The War of the Grand Alliance or the War of the League of Augsburg, was fought between the English and its Indian allies and the French and its Indian allies. The first major conflict occurred on February 9, 1690 when the French and Indian forces from Montreal attacked and burned Schenectady, New York. The English responded by the seizure of Port Royal on May 11, 1690. However, it was recaptured a year later by the French. The city of Quebec was also attacked by English forces in their first major military operation of King William's War, but they were obstructed by the French troops. The war ceased in a stalemate and officially ended with the Treaty of Ryswick, which ended the fighting in America and Europe, and returned all colonial possessions to their prewar status.

On the 14th of May 1264, the forces of Simon de Montfort, Gloucester and the Londoners were set arrayed against the loyalist forces of King Henry III, Richard of Cornwall and Prince Edward (later to become King Edward I). The loyalists suffered a massive defeat at this Battle of Lewes and among those captured, aside from Richard of Cornwall and perhaps the King (Prestwich indicates the unsure nature of the King's capture 46), were the northern barons (Scottish lords) of Balliol, Bruce and Comyn. (Jenks 132) Prince Edward also became a hostage as part of an exchange after the battle. These same men who fought together and were held captive by the de Montforts would war against each other thirty years later. King Edward I (whom will be referred to as Edward) was not set on instigating a war against Scotland, nor were any of these Scottish lords interested in battling against such a formidable opponent as England. So why did war occur if none of these men were initially motivated for war? A series of unfortunate, but potent events led to the chrysalis of war, which was then allowed to grow and fully develop into a war by the specific actions of individuals. This essay will attempt to draw attention to many of the events which gave rise to war and investigate the complex nature of the individuals who in the end caused war through their acts (intentional and non-intentional).

From 1754 to 1763, the French and Indian War took place. This war altered the political, economic, and ideological relations between Britain and its American colonies. It was the last of four North American wars waged from 1689 to 1763 between the British and the French. In these struggles, each country fought for control of the continent with the assistance of Native American and colonial allies. The French and Indian War occurred to end the land dispute between the British and French. Whoever won, in reality, gained an empire. It was a determined and eventually successful attempt by the British to get a dominant position in North America, the West Indies, and the subcontinent of India. Although Britain had won all this land, political, economic, and ideological relations between Britain and its American colonies were totally annihilated.
