General George Washington was the first president of the United States and he helped make the U.S. a country free. He served two terms as president and changed how the country was run. As the first president, he had to start from scratch and he realized it was not going to be easy. He believed that the president should be powerful enough to operate efficiently but not so that it acts like a dictator ship. The task that was bestowed upon him was great and he had to figure out how to act like a president. After winning the Revolutionary War and setting up the government, Washington wanted to live and die a private citizen

When cautioning against regionalism Washington said do not let regional attachments overwhelm the national attachment for the nation. It is said that the name of American must exalt the just pride of patriotism. At that time, many Americans identify with their state he urged the citizens to not allow such attachments to happen because it could cause the union to be unworkable because people would come to believe that their region was more important than the nation as a …show more content…
Today however, this partnership is viewed as an inseparable one. The early republic years were the most condemned most divisive, disruptive, and demagogues seeking power. Washington feared that parties would lead to the spirit of revenge and that the men in parties would not govern for the betterment of man. The men in each party would use potent engines and to rein in the power for themselves. The warning that Washington put out against partnership is that it opened the door for corruption and foreign influence. When getting into foreign policy it can be very tricky and sometimes very demanding. There is a lot of quid pro quo when working with outside countries. In Washington’s address, he clearly states that we should stay out of foreign policy and should not be entangled in it. Washington writes that America had already conducted engagements in foreign policy and should let those relationships
Washington's selection to be the leader of the Continental Army was the wisest choice that the newly formed Continental Congress could have made. Washington's selection as Commander of the Continental Army did more to win the Revolutionary war than any other decision made during the conflict. His personal character epitomizes perfectly the five traits required in a successful general: wisdom, sincerity, humanity, courage, and strictness. (Sun Tzu p. 65) These five crucial traits will become apparent and Washington's strategy to win the War of Independence is elaborated on further
Initially, George Washington gives the American people two main pieces of advice in his farewell. The first piece of advice he gives is that we should not split into political parties. He states, “In contemplating the causes which may disturb our Union, it occurs as matter of serious concern that any ground should have been furnished for characterizing parties by geographical discriminations.” He believed that if the nation split it would no longer be about what people believed but, what the parties believed. If there was not a republican and democrat stigma in congress then it would no
George Washington had character and was extraordinary. Ellis described Washington as an "incalculable asset." His leadership skills were unique. His actions were performed for his country, not for political gain. He was also directly associated with every major event of the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress, and the building of the new republic. Even the country 's new capitol had his name. These were some of the things that made him so special. Washington was not prideful and not easily led. He offered suggestions and warnings to his replacements and told the government to expand in a way that would keep the country standing; he was well aware of how dainty the country was. The United States would never have survived without him.
Modern, American political culture continues to be defined by partisan politics. Themes of gridlock, the inability to compromise, and violently competing differences in opinion define the narrative of American political action and governance. On March 4, 1801 Thomas Jefferson delivered an inaugural address that pivoted around new partisan politics that defined the election of 1800. The election of 1800, between Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Aaron Burr, was the first partisan election of the newly formed federal government. The political environment of the 1790s defined the context of Jefferson’s Inaugural Address and created a lasting theme of partisan politics in America. Through an analysis of Neo-Aristotelian criticism a deeper understanding will be gained on the cause, accomplishments, and the lasting impacts of Jefferson’s Inaugural Address.
George Washington, the first president of the United States, had written a very important historical speech and document towards the end of his time in office. He had written the Farewell address which focused on helping America understand the importance of preserving unity, acknowledging the rise of political parties forming, strengthening religion and morality, and he stated his position on American foreign policy. He addressed these ideas with strong tone and used incredible amount of dictions that strengthens his tone as well as representing his appeal to ethos to a strong degree. However, today’s society seemed to forget Washington’s position on foreign policy and has created a new form of the policy. But nonetheless as time grew, change occurs. In today’s society Washington’s foreign policy would include many positive and negative manifestations, but it is still a speech and document that will always apply to America.
Most people today think of George Washington as the first President of the United States. Perhaps they may remember that he was also the commanding general of the Continental Army. However, George Washington had much experience in the military before the Revolutionary War. Because of his experience, he was ideal for the responsibility of leading the new nation to victory over the British.
At the time of George Washington’s death people did not just view him as the first president of the United States, but instead they seen him as a physical representation of their republic. Washington was seen as the protector of the republic since he led his army against the army of the tyrannical British government. People felt that Washington himself protected and won them their liberties from the British. When it came time to elect a president there was no doubt that the people would chose George Washington to lead their new nation into what they
Washington’s Farewell Address was made an open letter of warning and guidance to the American citizens concerning their long-term happiness and safety. George Washington was a great American leader who voluntarily relinquished political powers and retired from public life, an act which itself was seen as unprecedented in the annals of global history since it was the major milestone to the establishment of the American Republican government (Gregg L. & Frazer 2012). The words of Washington’s Farewell are highly cherished in the American History. For instance, Justice John Marshall noted that, “Washington Farewell words are percepts to which US citizens can not too often recur.” This paper critically views the major points of George Washington’s “Farewell Address” such as The Preservation of the Union, The Danger of Factions, Religion and Morality, and America’s Role in the World considering contemporary government and including differing points of view.
There have been many great presidents and each president carries on the work of the past presidents. George Washington, being the first president of the United states, started it all. There are presidents that have made huge difference in slavery, rights, laws and plenty of other significant changes but none of this would have happened without George Washington. Washington lead by example and defined what the rule of a true leader and president is.
Although many presidents have struggled to keep their elected order in the United States, George Washington has had the most difficult job. Being the most difficult job, it required George to create a balance, set a foundation, and establish a leadership or a figure head for a whole country. Being the first president of the United States, this made the job for Washington more extreme having to create this equal country from scratch, through the struggle of war, establishment of a complete country and creating an example.
I believe that his role as the first president had much more of an impact on the United States than Presidents Jefferson and Jackson. Being the first president would have been very difficult because Washington did not know exactly what his role was and what he was supposed to do. He had to make it up as he went. Washington once wrote, “Few can realize the difficult and delicate part which a man in my situation has to act. I walk on untrodden ground. There is scarcely any part of my conduct which may not hereafter be drawn into precedent.” President Washington had to establish a lot of the conditions and aspects of the executive branch. He helped to make the role of the president what it is today. This is part of the legacy that he left behind. As I mentioned earlier, Washington had many successes in battle and was seen as a national hero. Washington passed along a legacy of national purpose, courage, strength, and integrity. I believe that these legacies are accurate because of all that Washington did for the people and the federal

Moreover, George Washington was the greatest leader of America who never quit, he did not exceed in life until he had met failure, and this helped him to establish
In 1796, after two terms as the first president of the United States, George Washington addressed the American people for the last time. Washington had led the new nation through the American Revolution and the establishment of the United States as a country. He was beloved among the American people, the majority of which wanted him to run for another term as president. Washington, though, craved a simple life in retirement and wished to be out of the public eye. Before he retired, he wrote one last letter to the citizens of the United States. This letter, originally titled “The Address of General Washington To The People of The United States on his declining of the Presidency of the United States” but later renamed “Washington’s Farewell
