Amnesty and The Illegal Immigration Problem

Illegal immigration has been a problem in the United States for a long time. The government attempted to use different methods to eliminate or reduce illegal immigrants. From deportation and increasing boarder security, to implementing laws that punish employers for hiring illegal immigrants, to awarding temporary work permits, and then to legalizing illegal immigrants through amnesty, these attempts have all failed. Nowadays, many questions ask if this problem of illegal immigration can ever be solved. Before this question is answered, perhaps another question that arises is why should we even care to stop illegal immigration? For those who are rational, and most people in the United States are, they would consider that to be a stupid question. Illegal immigration needs to be stopped, because they are illegal. This is a common sense answer that most Americans would come up with. Yes, it is true that illegal immigrants are illegal, that’s why they are given that name. However, besides the fact that they are illegal, they are also harmful to the American society. Studies show that illegal immigrants put a heavy burden on taxpayers in terms of cost. Not only that they are costly, they can also be dangerous to our lives. From transmitting diseases to criminal activities, statistics show overwhelming numbers of illegal immigrants either carry deadly diseases, and / or have serious crime records. Upon understanding the negative impacts illegal immigration can have on the United States, appropriate actions must be taken to deal with such issue. The world is not perfect.
