The America Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) was breed to be a sport dog, they are athletic energetic and a good companion. That being said over the years their reputation has dropped dramatically form once being Americas most popular dog to Americas most hated and feared dog. Pit bulls are nothing like the poor reputation that they have, they are very smart, loving, and friendly dogs. In America, dogs have become part of families and it is not taboo to see them treated, loved and taken care of as if they were a blood relative. There are all different breeds, sizes, and colors. Everyone has their own preference of dog that they find desirable. It seems to be that Americas’ favorite is a Labrador or Golden retriever or smaller terriers. Dogs have much history through out the world and their breeds but Americans have taken breeding to a new level producing many dogs that are popular in North American even around the world one of those being the American Pit Bull Terrier. People have their own preference and superstitions about dogs. Some people prefer Poodles and some prefer the smaller lap dogs like Chihuahuas and Yorkies. Unfortunately there are dogs out there that people say are “mean looking”. These dogs are Rottweiler’s, Dobermans, and Pit bulls. These dogs may look mean because they have a strong build and in most cases cropped ears, but they are no different than any other dog. It’s all how the trainer or owner trains and handles their dogs. Dogs are a reflection of the way they are raised.

The pit bull stereotype is that pit bulls are mean aggressive and ruthless dogs. They are said to have ‘lock jaw’ and other crazy stereotypes. There are many myths to the pit bull and some though seem real are also false. Yes pit bulls have atta...

...many problems out there for all breeds of dogs. Like stated earlier in the argument, owning a pit bull may not be someone’s first choice but for others it is. It is all a matter of opinion, if a responsible pet owner wants to own a pit from the time it is a puppy then I don’t see the harm. Same with adopting an older one, if you know the background of the dog then it should be fine. Pit bulls are dogs just like all the other ones out there and they should be treated the same as well.
