The Komodo dragon also known as the komodo monitor. The scientific classification is kingdom:animalia,Phylum:chordate,suborder:lacertilia,Family:varanidae:Genus:varanus,Subgenu : v.(varanus),Species:komodoensis. The Komodo dragon is found in the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, which is all away by china. The name Komodo dragon is referred to as ora, (land crocodile) because there on land more than they are in water . Komodo dragons are carnivores the eat just about anything living occasionally they consume humans and human’s corps by digging up shallow graves from grave sites in the area.Baby Komodo dragons eat small insects an other small animals. Komodo dragons can swallow a dear in 20-25 minutes.it eats 80% of its body weight in one meal. Komodo dragons can live on as little as 12 meals a year because of their slow metabolism. Mating occurs between April and August with eggs layed around September. During this period males fight other males for territory or for females, the loser has to find new area or a new mate once defeated. The Komodo dragon defecates or vomits befor a fight when preparing to battle the other Komodo dragon. Females lay eggs in burrows in the side of a hill or in abandon nesting mounds. Females lay about 20 eggs at one time and have an a period of 7 to 8 months for the komodo dragons in the eggs to get ready an develop. Baby Komodo dragons spend most of the time in the trees so they are protected and safe from other Komodo Dragons. Baby Komodo dragons take approximately 3 to 5 years to mature and can live up to 50 years or so.There are around 3000 to 5000 Komodo Dragons in the wild to day. The government of Indonesia protects most of the Komodo dragons range in komodo National Park. Komodo National Park was created in 1980 and consists of 670 square miles of land and marine animals. Not all of the Komodo Dragons live on Komodo National Park there are a few areas outside of the park with little or no protection. The Exploration of the Komodo National Park is allowed only by the president of Indonesia and have been designing new ideals for more komodo dragons habitats. The Komodo dragons are also protected by the Endangered Species Act, Listed on the Appendix 1.
