Alternative Therapy: Fake Medicine?

Many doctors see alternative therapies as only a joke in the medical field. New ideas and procedures without surgery or the use of medication are being portrayed as fake, unneeded and ineffective. Many are not considered serious medicine by the medical field specialists. There has to be another way to help heal the body instead of cutting patients open, or shoving all types of medications into patient’s bodies. Although alternative therapies are not taken seriously by doctors, the therapies are becoming increasingly more popular each day. Society is looking for better and more practical ways to achieve healthier lifestyles. Many patients are interested in new and safer ideas to stay healthy. Information regarding alternative therapies has become more readily available and accessible to the general public. Alternative therapies have come about to help the general public with their problems replacing the current doctor prescribed way of traditional medicine. According to The Hastings Center, the analyzing of our different traditions is needed to help regain the lost ideas of health care and to see new versions of old practices (Prasad). When medicine is not working, society needs to step back and discover different ways to provide health care. Despite the opposition stating alternative therapies such as chiropractic, meditation, and acupuncture are useless, these therapies are helping people all over the world overcome stress, pain and diseases. They also are contributing to society living healthier life styles with less use of prescription medication and surgical procedures.
