AAlternative Telecommunication Technologies Changing the Telecom Industry
“The Telecommunications Act of 1996 created a framework for competition in local telecommunications. Under its rules and under the jurisdiction of state regulatory authorities, competitive local telephone companies were to gain access to some or all parts of the incumbent's network through known wholesale tariffs and offer retail local telephone service”(Loomis &Swann, 2005). The essay will discuss how alternative technologies such as WiMAX have come into competition with wireless industry of telecom services with that were once dominated by telecom ILEC monopoly increasing the competition in the telecom industry. An analysis will be done on the mode of new telecom services influencing the telecommunication market and presenting potential benefits for consumers with the availability of new features and services that are rapidly increasing with the use of Web-based applications introduced by Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Examples of convergent and innovative technologic products and services are being used by consumers at a high rate may it be surfing of the Internet to communicating using the handheld Smartphone’s. The clear demand for faster speed at the tip of the hand can be seen as consumers, live and communicate on a daily basis allowing them to transform and become part of the information society.

Of particular importance is the deregulation of the telecommunications industry as mentioned in the act (“Implementation of the Telecommunications Act,” NTLA). This reflects a new thinking that service providers should not be limited by artificial and now antique regulatory categories but should be permitted to compete with each other in a robust marketplace that contains many diverse participants. Moreover the Act is evidence of governmental commitment to make sure that all citizens have access to advanced communication services at affordable prices through its “universal service” provisions even as competitive markets for the telecommunications industry expand. Prior to passage of this new Act, U.S. federal and state laws and a judicially established consent decree allowed some competition for certain services, most notably among long distance carriers. Universal service for basic telephony was a national objective, but one developed and shaped through federal and state regulations and case law (“Telecommunications Act of 1996,” Technology Law). Since the concept of outsourcing was introduced it has been a subject of debate between politicians and citizens of the United States. Remarkably, it was the United States who supported outsourcing and now it is the United States that feels its economic progress is being threatened by outsourcing. One may argue that the financial situations that existed two decades earlier are not the same as they are today, thus the change of time, business priorities of economies have also changed.
In this paper, I will compare three different websites that contain information about cell phone plans. I chose T-mobile, Verizon and Sprint for comparisons. I chose T-Mobile because I am currently using T-mobile as my cell phone plan. I selected Verizon and Sprint because they are the leading competitors of T-mobile.

Telecommunications gained mainstream attention in the early 90’s; however the initial key market was business men and women, who used their phones whilst being on the move and so allowing them to communicate with their companies with ease. Though in the modern era, telecommunication went through segmentation in the market trends, and now in this day and age it would be difficult to find someone who does not own some form of mobile technology. Many phone providers battle to provide the best service for their customers (Figure 1).
Compared with the rate of many decades before, the rate of mobile usage is zooming these days. The developments of general economy and technology revolute peoples’ life styles and bring mobile business into a new page. Nowadays, business trends could still make a huge difference in those mobile companies.
The changes in the technological can influence many part of societies. When the AT&T Company introduce their new product and services which is wireless and wire line technology will effects occur primarily through the new products, processes, and materials. Thus, changes in technological also often can achieve higher market share and earn higher return because, newly emerging technology from AT&T could derive competitive advantages. For example, internet today becoming more remarkable capability to provide information easily, quickly, effectively, and also can create more value for customer in the future and to anticipate future trends.
