Almost Lover
Many songs have deeper meanings then what we truly think. Its important to really take time out of the day, and sit down to dissect the song to find its true meaning, or maybe even its multiple different meanings, that have been hidden away. The song Almost Lover, by A Fine Frenzy, is one of the songs that could have multiple different meanings behind it. The female singer of A Fine Frenzy, is named Alison Sudol. Alison Sudol is from Seattle, Washington. She was born December 23, 1984. She sings mainly Indie songs, and also stars in a few movies. In the song Almost Lover, she is singing about her lover leaving her behind. Its a slow, Indie song that has sweet, but sad music to it. Many questions arise when it comes to songs talking about a lover leaving a significant other. Where did Alison Sudol’s lover go? And why is he leaving? Its difficult to know when the song doesn’t just flat out tell us, but with a little deeper look into the song lyrics, we can almost always find what we want to know.
In the song Almost Lover, Alison sings about different images she has here and there throughout the song. In one line she sings, “We walked along a crowded street, You took my hand and danced with me, Images.” One of the questions about her multiple statements about these images she is having is what are they? They could be memories, hopes, dreams, or simply her imagination. After doing some more dissecting of her song, I realized that these images are memories, or flashbacks from her relationship with her lover. What helped me come to this view point, was when I saw how completely descriptive she is with the lyrics as she speaks of the images that are haunting her. She paints a picture of her memories for her listener...

...for this reason as well. Maybe he thought it would be better for her, if he let her be free while he was away serving for his country.
After looking more into the song Almost Lover, by A Fine Frenzy its easier to see more of a meaning behind the song. All the signs throughout the song point to show that she wasn’t just left like a normal break-up. Her lover let her go because he was being deployed, and didn’t want to make her wait around for him. Even thought, it still broke her heart, and everything she does just makes her think about him, and wonder if he is okay while he is away serving the country. After dissecting one song its easy to start wondering about the deeper meanings of almost every song that is made. Altogether Almost Lover, is a beautifully written love song, about a heartbreaking reason to be left. She still wonders about him, and his well being.
In this song one can tell that the singer is very sad and depressed about many things that have happened in his life and the love ones that have passed away. When he sings this lyric “My sweetest friend…. I will let you down” you can tell that it is about how his loved ones have passed on and he let
There are more than three billion people living on Earth; however, not everyone adores each other. On the other hand, if people met Bill and Bud, two main characters from The Tender Bar, they would find them charming. J.R. Moehringer wrote an emotional autobiography about himself and his devastating life, in The Tender Bar, J.R. walked into a bookstore in an unhabituated mall, and met Bill and Bud, who changes his life forever. Many youth, teens, and adults would find Bill and Bud likeable, because the pair of them are smart, optimist, and loving.
In the beginning of the song, If You Don’t Know, the singer is coming to realization that their partner is going to leave them. In the first stanza the lyrics say, “tonight we’re fading fast, I just want to make this last.”. The singer is saying that they want their relationship to continue and that they believe that it is coming to an end quickly.Later, in that same stanza the singer says, “I’d find a way to make you stay. I’d never let you get away.”. Here, the singer is realizing that the person whom they love is leaving. As
Although in an ideal world it would fit that our lover was a soulmate, most rational people would agree that this is not always the case. Tom Wayman's "Wayman in Love" details an encounter between a man and a woman that, although devoid of true love, the man feels has been a long time coming. Conversely, Carol Jane Bangs' "Touching Each Others Surface's" is the remembrance of a love that is no longer alive. Both of these poems explore the topic of physical encounters that possess no feeling. However, they do so from opposite ends of the spectrum. While "Wayman in Love" is the story of a one-night stand (and therefore devoid of real emotion), "Touching Each Other's Surfaces" is a tale of love long past.
To start off, this phrase has the most meaning because it sums up the entirety of this powerful song in just one short sentence. The main meaning of this song is centered on the fact that every single person goes through life making many mistakes and regretting past decisions. Of course, it is okay to be occasionally frustrated with these mishaps, but at the same time, one cannot let these negative ordeals consume
This indicates how love can be so destructive and how it can make people ‘love’ a person so much that if that person was gone, they lose their reason to
The dizzy and ugly words used in the lyrics can increase the sexual message given the song. Further, the bad romance is the amateur singing group who actually just portrayed their bad experience of romance in the past. The comparison
When listening to the song for a second time, one realizes that the entire song’s meaning can be condensed down into one line. This line is found when the singer states, “I wanna free fall, out into nothin'. Gonna leave this, world for awhile. And I'm free, free fallin'.” In this line, we see that the singer is talking about “Leaving this world;” this referring to his current girlfriend. When viewing this song from the perspective of the guy ,rather than the girl, we see that this core line expresses the escapism and inability to understand one's emotions. Ultimately, we see that the lead singer is talking about running away; thus allowing him to “feel free” and “fall” into society how
Getting to know the background of a song initially might help you understand and depict more from the song. Russ wrote this song for his very first girlfriend at the age of 18. He was a very neglectful boyfriend who cheated on her and kept trying to push her away. She was in love with him, but because of how he treated her, she can’t trust and love another man. Russ is truly sorry about this stating, “I’m tryna to

She thinks that love is an emotion that can control your actions and make you feel hate and fear. When teenagers go through puberty, our feelings and emotions are uncontrollable which causes us to make foolish and imbecile decisions. Many people think that teenagers just say they are in love just for the feelings, but most of the time it’s just our hormones controlling our minds like animals finding a mate. Teenagers go through a stage of emotional development when going through puberty, according to the article “Beyond Raging Hormones”. When teenagers are sad or mad, they usually listen to songs to cope with the heartbreak. One famous artist named Ed Sheeran is famous for his sad love songs. Although he writes sad songs, he wrote one song about loving a body of a girl he saw at a bad called “Shape of You”. The lyrics proved to me that people crave physical attraction the most, especially when they are heartbroken and sad.
The literal meaning of the lyric also makes sense, but to be able to understand why the author put this lyric in the song, you have to see it as a metaphor. In honesty, you really only hate fighting with people when you miss the good memories. A third literary device that was used in this piece is Personification.Personification is the application of human characteristics to something that is not human. This makes the reader enjoy the piece more by adding descriptive adjectives to something that is not applicable.Passenger, in his song wrote, “But dreams come slow, and they go so fast.” The lyric in its literal form implies that dreams are moving and they are slow or fast. In reality dreams are not physical, and therefore cannot move. To understand this lyric, we have to think of it as a literary device. The author implies that dreams take a lot of hard work and time to achieve. Though those dreams may be pleasant at the time, they leave quicker than you think, so enjoy it while it lasts. Don’t ever take anything for granted because at any time, it could all disappear. If you think of the song that way, the meaning and message of the song becomes a lot clearer. The
These song lyrics are based upon a young girl who wishes to belong in a relationship. She dreams to fall in love and have her ‘superman’ there to save and protect her when she needs him, like a fairy tale. The composer has used the technique of rhythm to engage the audience to listen and allow a connection in the mood and purpose of the song. This technique can be shown through the assessable lyrics and simple chorus. The composer has also used repetition with the words “in his arms” to signify the sense of wanting to belong and feel secure in a relationship. The alliteration used “Like Lois Lane” enhances the audience to remember the lyrics easily and establish the connection with a fairy tale love of movie stars and make believe stories. From the chorus we are shown that she is naïve, as she wishes upon passing cars, which suggests that she is still young but longs for a relationship or for someone to sweep her up and take her away. Alliteration can also be located in the lyrics “Still, she smiles” and “she says” these two lines give a sense to the audience that the girl is covering for her desire of wanting to belong in a relationship as she is still searching. As her desire to belong has driven her to start looking for “A sign lost in the abyss” it relays to the audience that her love is nowhere to been seen. However, the song goes on to say “To lift her up and take her anywhere, Show her love and climbing through the air, Save her now before it’s too late tonight” This verse suggests that she has a sense of not belonging where she is and if left alone may become suicidal. It is for this reason she desires for her ‘superman’ to save her from herself, her life and be there to protect her, keep her safe and secure.
A primary objective of modern songs is to present and reflect topics that are significant to today’s society, whether it be moral values or controversial issues. The only relationship described in this song is between the man and his wife. The young man is seen to have somewhat of a relationship issue with his wife, caused mostly by his obsession with wealth. Evidence of this struggle between the two is presented in lines 3, 4 and 27. The verse, “I feel her love and I feel it burn” depicts the young man’s desire to push away from the hustle and bustle of life and spend some more time with his loved one instead. He knows that he is not always there for her and he feels guilty about it, hence her love metaphorically “burning”
This song was “our” song. We would plug in his phone and play this song on repeat for hours. We did not really listen to the lyrics, except that we wanted to get out. Patrick and I were hard to separate. I wanted to be with him a lot of the time. Most times that I heard this song, one would see a huge smile appear on my face. Then, slowly, the smiles stopped appearing and Patrick and I drifted apart. We would fight much of the time; neither of us were happy. We eventually stopped talking and ended our relationship in a rough way. I did not listen to the true meaning of the song until after the end of Patrick and I’s
