Ally Condie is a modern author who writes young adult novels that teaches readers of all ages valuable life lessons while still allowing us to go on wild adventures with the characters. Publisher's Weekly says that her novels are an accurate showcase of Condie's “...vivid, poetic writing...” that allows us as readers to see deeply into the character's pain and desires. Condie's writing holds the perfect balance between enthralling and educational with her common themes of love, loss and friendship delicately woven into her novels. In her Matched Trilogy, Condie touches upon less talked about themes such as sacrifice and an over-powered government: What form of government is truly best for society and just how much control should that government have?
Ally Condie is a very reserved woman, leaving little personal information left out for the public's eyes. We do, however, know that her interest in literature has long been inside of her. After four years of studies, Condie graduated from Bringham Youth College and got a job working as an English Teacher in upstate New York. She later moved just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah where she continued teaching at a local high school. This is where she met her husband and settled down with him, later giving birth to four children. Condie published her first book, Yearbook, in September of 2006, continuing the Trilogy with First Day in June of 2007 and Reunion in October of 2008. Condie also wrote two standalone books, Freshman for President in June of 2008 and Being Sixteen in January of 2010.

Sharon Creech’s childhood memories, college experiences, and creative brain significantly affected her writings. She rarely thought of being an author growing up, but as time progressed, she began to really think about it. Creech first became interested when she entered college and something sparked her career. Democracy is rule by the people; the people elect governing officials based off of their personal values and beliefs. Different political parties rule the political scene and are serving to represent the people’s opinions in the best ways possible. Previously, I had a belief that my political view was essentially the only one possible and therefore it was the best. These views changed quickly once I learned the different political parties, their views, how they represent the people’s views, and how public opinion shapes politics. The government is formed around differentiating opinions on which policies should be in place and which social aspects need to be considered first. The issue is that current young adult literature is too dark for teen readers, or is merely more realistic than previous works for teens. In early June 2011, the Wall Street Journal ran an editorial written by book critic Meghan Cox Gurdon says how dark is contemporary fiction for teens? Defining the novel is a challenging prospect because the act of naming means to circumscribe a genre that defies rigid codes. The novel's elasticity and readiness to incorporate other genres makes it slippery and untidy; nevertheless, the novelness of a text allows us to recognize a novel and distinguish it from other genres. As readers, we approach the novel with the expectation that it will possess novelistic attributes and judge the novel on its ability to master these. With this focus in mind, this essay explores how the following features in Jane Austen's Persuasion contribute to (or persuade us as to) the novelness of the text: the extensive treatment of its characters, a sense of cohesion and continuity present in a work of long prose fiction, and a vivid portrayal of the social order on the micro-level of the domestic scenes of everyday.
