The lakes and parks are attractive to people looking for good vacation spots. The thriving coastal area creates a perfect place to live with a wealth of opportunities along the coastline for shrimp, lobster and deep water fishing. Within the last 20 years, Mississippi has become a great tourism area, especially along the Mississippi coast. There are casinos in Biloxi, Gulfport, Natchez, Vicksburg and all along the Mississippi River from Tunica to Natchez. Many Civil War Battles were fought in Mississippi.

The people, places and, events tell the story of Mississippi. The Modern History of Mississippi has made it the beautiful and popular state it is today.
The Maryland Blue Crab is an essential part of the Chesapeake Bay; from the food chain of the creatures in the water, to the business side of the thriving demand for the crab during the hot summer months, but there is no denying the fact that the crab is just as important alive as it is when it is being harvested by local fisherman. By becoming more informed of the impact the crab has on Maryland’s bay and on the people who live around it, people can take bigger steps in making sure the crab will always be around for decades to come.
Within the state of Florida there are dozens of individualized, non-profit organizations making an effort to help the local wildlife. The local land and marine wildlife includes birds, geckos, frogs, snakes, panthers, manatees, sea turtles, fishes, sharks, corals, lizards and many, many more. Florida State is located on the Southeastern tip of the United States providing a unique opportunity for conservation of salt-water animals. While there are animal conservation efforts taking place all over the world, this essay will focus on two animal species that humans are specifically trying to save in Florida State. The two main animal species of focus are manatees and sea turtles.

The Everglades is a diverse ecosystem located in southern Florida, yet urbanization has created a considerable amount of impact that has altered the physical landscape of the region, resulting in a symbiotic environment between humans and nature. Based on geographical research, the original Everglades spanned an area of approximately 12,000km2, and now because of urbanization and agricultural growth in this sub-region the area of the Everglades has been condensed to half of its original size (Willard et al 1-2). The Everglades is actually a sub-region of the Southern Coastlands region of the United States. It is comprised of a unique climate, divided into sub-provinces that create a diverse pallet of environments for wildlife to thrive, yet the impact of human modifications over a period of decades has drastically effected animal populations, and changed the functionality and physical landscape of its expanse. Despite the differences of urbanization and wildlife, major cities and the ecosystem of the Everglades thrive and fuse together to form the diversely changing landscape of the modern Everglades.

Being the 15th state to join the Union in 1792, Kentucky has brought forth a number of important people and aspects to the United States.
Mississippi has a variety of different soils .The three general soils are 1) the river flood plain, known as the Delta, 2) a loess region, or bands of soils formed in windblown material that adjoins the Delta, and 3) Coastal Plain. The Mississippi Delta is better for growing row crop, while the loess and Coastal Plain region are better for animal production and forestry. The loess and Coastal Plain regions are divided based on similar soils, geology, climate, water resources, and land use called Major Land Resource Areas. The Mississippi Delta’s soil comes from sediments left by flooding various rivers in the region, rather than being a typical Delta formed by the mouth of a river. In the Delta most of the land is farmed, with three-fourths of the cropland to the north. Controlling surface water and drainage are major soil management issues. In the Delta soils are naturally diverse because of their alluvial origin. Particle sizes within the sediment decrease as distance from the originating stream increase. Another factor in Delta soil formation us surface water movement over time, because soils that formed under standing water have different properties than soils formed under moving water. Soils with large amounts of clay particles have unique features. When the soil is dry, small round aggregates form at the surface that look like shotgun buckshot, which is where the popular name for Delta clay soils “buckshot” came from. Soils with large clay content have very slow water filtration rates; this has led to significant aquaculture and rice production in the region. Mississippi History and how it has made it today. Mississippi past a big effect on it now. There were many events in Mississippi’s History that are still the same today. Mississippi was known for a lot of disasters. There were wars, the first war was between the Indians and the French, the French won and they took he land from the Indians, the land on the east side of Mississippi was given to the English who later lost it to the United States in 1783 after the Revolutionary War. Than there was The Battle of Vicksburg, marked a very important date in Mississippi state history. It pays tribute to the forces who fought the Confederate Army for 47 straight days. The Vicksburg National Military Park outlines the facts for current visitors with many commemorative monuments. In 1969 Mississippi and Louisiana were devastated by Camille one of the century’s worst Hurricane, in 1973 the Mississippi River rose to record levels in the state, and in 2005 Mississippi and Louisiana suffered widespread devastation, even greater than that from Camille, when Hurricane Katrina struck both states. Hundreds of people were killed. In 1929 and 1939 was the Great Depression, many farmers lost their land this was a major downfall in the history of Mississippi State. That left many in poverty. It pushed Mississippians, predominantly poor and rural to the point of desperation, and the state’s agricultural economy to the brink of disaster. In 1932, cotton sank to five cent a pound, and one- forth of the state’s farmland was forfeited for nonpayment of taxes. I believe that Southern California is a great place to visit because of the great weather and the beautiful and fun attractions to visit. This would be a great place for a vacation. I might be a little bit biased since on May 17, 1995, I was born in Southern California and lived there for the first 10 years of my life. I have many fond memories of the Sunshine State.

In 1540, Hernando de Soto became the first European to discover Mississippi. He was looking for gold, pearls and silver. He was the first to document the great river into official reports. He called it the river El Rio de la Florida. Diseases caused a decline in the population. The United States forced the Indian tribes out of their homeland. During 1695, Europeans was interested in Mississippi because they were looking for commodities like deerskin, tobacco and indigo. They competed for coalitions with various tribes, which ended in deadly conflicts often, resulted. The French and Indian War created a treaty ending in 1763 gave minimal control of the region east of the Mississippi to England.
