The Advantages of Taking a Gap Year

Although Maya did not experience any negative outcomes during her year off, she had a lot of positive factors of The Gap Year to talk about. Time was a very big plus for her. Firstly, she believes that during the year a student takes off they could spend that time working. A gap year participant is going to have to fund their schooling some how. Second, she says “a gap year is a good and long enough amount of time for someone to clear their mind.” What I believe she means is that, during high school, or any other kind of schooling one pursues, at one point or another they are going to get stressed. Finally, she tells me how this time gives a student enough time to just sit and clear their mind about any struggles or complications floating around. One would want to go into college with a clear mind and try not to worry about much.
During this interview I learned that their are a lot more positives in The Gap Year then I had thought. I thought that there were more negatives than positives. One thing that I found shocking was that the things I believed to be bad about The Gap Year ended up being the exact opposite. Time can be a student's best friend, for more than one reason. During this time one could get a job for funding their gap year and college, get in a clear and positive state of mind, explore the world and do things that they could not do during school and even try to get an internship.
There is now a Gap Year Program called The UnCollege Gap Year Program (The UnCollege). This program gives students the opportunity the experience The Gap Year the right way.
