Advantages and disadvantages of genetically manipulating babies
The technology of genetic manipulation is allowing the future to be full of possibilities whether they are improvements or disadvantages. Presently, genetic manipulation is allowing us do amazing things like designing babies. It can allow us to make sure that the future child does not have incurable diseases or genetic disorders, and the features of the baby can almost be selected from its parents. However, many may believe that genetic manipulating to produce designer babies is not an ethical way and natural way to create the baby. People are also questioning whether the parents of the baby have the actual right to genetically manipulating their baby.
Using Genetic manipulation to create designer babies can bring many benefits to our society. Firstly, it can create disease “insurance” for the designer babies as it can make sure that the child does not hold genes that can cause genetic illnesses. Families that are genetic diseases carriers or has huge fatal diseases may benefit from the technology of designing babies and it may also help eliminating the risks of genetic diseases from the society. This process of genetic manipulation can help removing incurable genetic diseases such as Alzheimer Huntington’s disease and Down syndrome, which then allow the future generation to live healthy conditions. This case became controversial and people debated that they should not have the right to deliberately make their baby deaf because the parents do not believe that deaf are a disability.
Using the technology of genetic manipulating designer babies might be a huge benefit for those who suffer from genetic disease and illnesses, and may save many lives. However, it also comprises of many ethical issues and makes people question whether it is morally right or not. However it may be, people who choose to have their designer babies must have their own reasons and they should be respected.
