Recommended: How can poverty lead to substance abuse

Addiction has plaque our nation. While we may not all agree on the causes or

solutions of addiction. We can all agree that there is a drug epidemic in the

United States. The addiction to drugs is causing our country to suffer adverse effects.

People are becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol and their lives are spiraling

out of control. Addicts are not able to maintain focus or a central gravity of

life. Many addicts are not able to function daily as responsible members of society.

Addicts can be our loved ones, our next-door neighbor, the person we pass on the

street. Addicts with some type of addiction can be virtually anybody in this day

and age.

Addicts play a major part in our crime rate going up. Crimes are being committed by

addicts such as burglary, robbery, prostitution, carjacking’s, child abuse, child

neglect, murders, drug trafficking, home invasions, theft, including

shoplifting, identity theft, credit card theft, bank fraud and even stealing

from loved ones.

Some addicts are a public nuisance, driving up unemployment rates, becoming more

dependent upon social services, raising the risk of homelessness, breaking up

homes, and causing strained relationships.

The lifestyles of some addicts are raising the death rate in the US because of their risky behaviors. They're raising the risk of serious illnesses, mental illness, other diseases,

and over all poor health. Addicts are subjecting themselves to all different

types of diseases from hepatitis, HIV/AIDS.

Addicts cause a strain on our economy, through our healthcare system, the penal system, auto insurance increase and judicial system. Taxpayers are footing the bill of incurrin...

becoming addicted.

The fight against addiction most included early childhood education along with

strong moral value, positive influence, strong programs to support drug

prevention. And most importantly an environment the promote the will of God and not the will of man.
