Abraham Lincoln run for office saying America can't be half slaves states and one half is free states he is elected president.December 20, 1860, - South Carolina secedes from the Union. Followed within two months by Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas.the american civil war took place from 1861 to 1865. the war started when the southern states seceded from the northern states and formed the confederate states of America led by confederate president Jefferson Davis. the union was led by president Abraham Lincoln the south began to seceded from the north after Abraham Lincoln was elected president and was trying to abolish slavery and for all. the american civil war started on April 12, 1861 at the battle of fort Sumter where the confederates first attacked trying to take fort Sumter from union possession led by Pierre Beauregard. president Lincoln responded to this by rounding up union soldiers to send in to take back the fort from the confederates. this starts the beginning of one of Americas bloodiest wars in history. the civil war is know as

The union army had a lot more soldiers, weapons, and medical supplies that the confederates army had very minimal access to during the war. Getting people to volunteer was not a problem for the union as many young men would enlist out of excitement. Soldiers would also rise relatively fast in ranks due to they're being so much youth. The soldiers were trained in infantry fighting tactics.President Abraham Lincoln also selected all his generals by himself. The four commanding generals during the civil war were winfield Scott, George B. McClellan, Henry W. Halleck, Ulysses S.
