Abortion is defined as the termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo, causing or resulting in its death. A longtime political, social, and moral issue, abortion has been front-page news in the United States for generations. At first it was a pseudoscientific procedure that was as dangerous as it was successful. Later it transformed into a secretive method of correcting mistaken pregnancies. Today, it is a carefully executed, and sometimes appropriate method of saving a life. Yes, abortions save lives. The public at large has a tendency to quickly judge abortions, however they positives outweigh the negatives in this procedure, and we as a people must push to make this an option for anyone. A life is a terrible thing to waste: killing a baby before it is born is a terrible way to end a life before it begins. Is this correct? Can it be said that people only get abortions to fix the steamy night behind the bleachers? That is apparently the idea behind abortions, yet it is flawed. Abortions today are more commonplace than ever before, and why is this? Because instances of rape, incest, and deformities are on the rise, and saving the life of a mother and father is equally as important as saving the life of a child. It is not up for Congressmen and distressed aunts to decide a decision for someone. Just as young teenage daughters covet trendy, short-skirts, there is always disapproval from elders suggesting that the skirt is not appropriate, and shouldn’t be purchased. Yet, are they to decide the wardrobe of this young female for the rest of her life? Ultimately, it is up to the daughter to decide what she wants, what fits right, what looks good, and what will help he... ... middle of paper ... ...child correctly, thus giving them a second lease on life via abortion is both logical and reasonable. Although it may be wrong to some, only the individual parents –in particular the woman- has the right to decide their own choice. Do they give birth to a child from a convicted felon? Do they give birth to a child while they are still a child? Do they give birth to a child whose father is the father of their very own mother? Maybe. However, giving women the option of abortion is no “maybe.” It is simple: giving women a choice over their own life and their own child is an inalienable right protected by the ideas of freedom established by our forefathers. In conclusion, having an open mind will fix this problem. Realizing that, although one group of individuals may find abortion to be wrong, a pregnant mother has the right to decide what is right and wrong.
