The 21st century’s advanced technology has revolutionized the world. Marshall McLuhan, a Canadian communications theorist educator, writer and social reformer, acknowledged a societal change since the phenomenal development of the World Wide Web. The theorist stated that “The medium, or process, of our time - electric technology is reshaping and restructuring patterns of social interdependence and every aspect of our personal life. It is forcing us to reconsider and re-evaluate practically every thought, every action. In this electronic age, we see ourselves being translated more and more into the form of information, moving toward the technological extension of consciousness.” Internet’s functionalities, with improved bandwidth rates, real-time interaction, and image-rich virtual environment, have changed the way people communicate, act, and deal in a global space without borders.
Yet, the unexpected growth of the Internet took a further step in changing trading by breaking down the barriers of brick-and-mortars stores. Today, e-commerce is the new platform for developing new storefronts. The importance of E-Commerce goes far beyond the transactions because the Internet appeals to a worldwide population.
The author of this paper considers the cultural and human impact of the Internet as a new way of life, a remarkable and undeniable technology, focusing on the positives and negatives advantages and consequences on our societal world.
Society and Internet

As the book Amusing Ourselves To Death, discusses some of McLuhan’s ideology on technology by extending our thoughts would impact us through the Internet today is an “extension of the body,” as the internet has changed the way we think and the way we learn has extended our way of thinking. Though the media, television, and social media is where we get our information today with the technology of Internet and social media platforms being introduced to society. I believe that the Internet can make the process better from television because it is print media and you have to use deeper thought that just viewing material. With television however, what gets the most attention is entertaining and uses minimal thought. Our Internet is set up with the content of choice there are only so
Over the past few years, the Internet “is fundamentally changing the way companies operate,” to create additional revenue streams and refine the way they do business with existing customers (Ecommerce). E-commerce is crucial to the future success of companies, and those that do not embrace the Internet to conduct its business “will be destroyed by competitors who are leveraging the power of the Internet” (Ecommerce).
Internet as a medium has been a thoroughly discussed topic, especially in recent years with the rise of the World Wide Web. Analysis of relevant literature in the topic shows that the internet is not a new medium. This argument can be shown by looking more in depth into what defines a medium and what defines the internet. From that analysis by looking from a historical point of view the internet can be seen as an old medium which uses re-mediation to deliver content to users. The connection between internet and its users has helped the internet influence the way media is viewed today. Although the internet is not a new medium the content it presents is new. The advances in technology have helped the use of the internet reach new heights in terms of interest and it's capabilities are now being utilised by the masses. This rise in popularity has given the implication that the internet is new. These points can be analysed in more depth which has led me to take the stance that the internet is not a new medium.
For years and years, the internet has been offering a very extensive variety of information, social networking sites, merchandise purchases, online banking and many other services that our grandparents and our great grandparents could only dream of. This doesn’t mean that it’s all good or useful information and sites. Neither does it mean it hasn’t had a huge impact on the way society is changing just because it is a virtual space.
Electronic commerce (ecommerce) refers to a type of business, or commercial transaction, that engages the transfer of information through the Internet (Boltzan, P. 2008). In other words, it is the buying and selling of goods and services including the transferring of data and funds over an electronic network, predominantly the Internet. The leading benefits of ecommerce include twenty-four seven access, and availability, international scope, larger range of goods and services and the speed of accessibility. Ecommerce utilises a variety of functionalities such as email, Web Services, Fax, Shopping Carts and Online catalogues. After a somewhat slow start ecommerce has developed into the largest retail growth area in the world (Kearney, A.T.

Since the industrial revolution, one and one important inventions were created. In March 1989, Tim Berners-Lee implemented the first successful communication between Hypertext Transfer Protocol clients. The most influential technology to humans nowadays, internet, was made at this time. Internet brings a lot of new changes to humans. A favorite view of the Internet holds that the democratization of communications will bring about the democratization of the world. In fact, the relationship between cyberspace and political liberalization is far more complex. Ian Bremmer, the author of “Democracy in Cyberspace: What Technology Can and Cannot Do for Us”, points out that internet has a both-side effect that it can help promote consumerism and democracy while it can also help authoritarian government to guide people’s emotions to what they want. However, Naomi Klein, the author of “Fences of enclosure, Windows of Possibility”, points out that the Internet helps the process of globalization destroying old fences. Old fences are those boundaries that obstruct people to communicate with others in physic and spirit. Disappearing of old fences hurts the normal people and create discordant elements to different countries. As a matter of fact, internet and globalization have a double-side effect. They improve life for individuals, but they also bring new challenges.
E-commerce was not so much known about in the last few years. However, growth in technology has revolutionized it in modern times. The advent of World Wide Web (WWW) from the early 1990s has been one of the major forces behind the advancements in e-commerce. Governments and private sector are investing in e-commerce as one of the ways of surviving competition and increasing economic growth. E-commerce is currently facilitating transactions between businesses and consumers (B2C). On the other hand, it has also become vital in business to business trading (B2B).
Technological advancements have taken the world by storm. The daily chronicles have a different story to tell with every dawn of a new day about a technological invention and/or innovation. Doing business has become competitive more than ever. This phenomenon has created a business environment that follows the cliché, the survival of the fittest. It is in this spirit that businesses have adopted technology to survive and remain relevant in the dynamic consumer environment. This is especially so because the world has become a global village where information, ideas and products flow between different continents have become seamless. The internet has made it easier and cheap for manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers to transact their businesses in a variety of markets in a faster manner. Consumers are also able to access a wide range of goods and services anytime they feel like. This study discusses the development of e-commerce and its future prospects.
I chose to write about the internet and its impact on people. I chose this subject because we could see clearly the effect of it on people especially socially. This subject has many positive and negative aspects such as social effect, finance issue, faster communication, entertainment for everyone, virus and spam mail, shopping online, the advantages and disadvantages of both sides.
In our society, there has been a revolution which competes that of the industrial revolution. It is called technological revolution. At the top of the technological revolution is what we call, the Internet. In the following report we will be discussing about what the internet is about in general and how it might be in the future, why it is necessary in our everyday lives, and why has it become so important to everyone (i.e. companies, individuals ).
Change has always been for the better, but when it comes to change in technology; it’s not necessary that the change is going to be good. Technology has been advancing rapidly and is given more importance now than ever before. Every day, technology enhances our modern lifestyle. Although electronics allow us to connect and communicate our ideas with people, they also brainwash us into spending more time using our devices rather than spending quality time with friends and family. It may be hard to believe, but statics show us that almost sixty percent of teens that were surveyed said that they had a slight addiction to the internet and more than forty percent of teens are addicted to their phones. There is no doubt that the internet is very useful, keeping in mind all of its benefits, however its advantages are not the only things we need to focus on. Some of the negative effects internet is leading to are harming us online and in reality. The internet is negatively affecting major parts of our lives, such as affecting us online and in reality, internet becoming an addiction and lastly its negative effect on our culture and religion.
The mass media include television, radio, movies, videos, CDs, audio tapes, the Internet, newspapers, magazines and books. The fastest growing medium is the Internet. The invention of Internet lets the consumers to be able to look for the informations or for entertainment such as academic journals, books, online games, music and others. According to “Internet Usage Statistic” (2005), the number of Internet users started from 40 million in 1995 to 28 million in 2000 and later increase into a dramatic 800 million plus in 2005 worldwide. The Internet is as a social system. (Eighmey and McCord, 1998). As we all know, internet is mainly used for social learning, engaging in social relationship, starting and maintaining communication and encouraging a sense of belonging through the...
