A Thirty Day Sentence

A former fifty-four year old high school teacher was released after a thirty-day rape sentence. Stacey Rambold was accused of raping his high school student, fourteen-year old Cherice Moralez in 2007. The term rape does not have a solid definition, but it can vary based on the laws each state has. Rape in my own words can be defined as a sexual act done to another person forcibly or without their consent. Usually in rape cases the male is the rapist and the female is the victim. Rape is considered a reproductive health issue because it affects females or males physically, emotionally, and or mentally. Rape can lead to a traumatizing life, sickness, suicide and or death. Unfortunately, Cherice Moralez committed suicide before Stacey Rambold went to trial in 2010.
Many including State Prosecutors argued that Rambold should have received a minimum of two year or more in jail. The State Prosecutors are appealing as illegal a thirty-day sentence for rape. Rambold has been registered as a level one sex offender, which means he is considered low risk to re-offend and will remain in probation until 2028. The judge in the case was District Judge G. ...odd Baugh should have made the comments he made about Cherice Moralez. I believe as a judge he could have had more respect for Cherice and her family. The fact that Cherice looked older than her age should have nothing to do with her being rapped. Nobody should ever have to go through a traumatizing event like being raped simply because you’re a female or look a certain way. Rape is morally incorrect because you are robbing someone of their freedom to choose who to love. You are making the individual your victim against their own will. I think the lesson to learn with this article is that rape is a difficult subject to have to speak about. Normally people feel like the rapist should always be to blame for and that the victim deserves justice. Unfortunately, in this case many feel like Rambold got away too easy, but the Judge is the one who makes the final decision.
