A STUDY ON PENETRATION OF E-LEARNING AS A TRAINING TOOL AMONG THE INDIAN WORKFORCE

Introduction In current Indian economical situation’s organizational training programs have become important corporate perk. The emphasis of this study has arisen in today’s Indian context where organisations in India invest large sums of capital on training infrastructure. Indian employees spend a huge part of their time and effort in training programmes. Training in any organisation is of utmost importance to both the employer as well as the employee as both parties are looking at enhancing performance and increasing the productivity and hence they tend to emphasize on its benefits (Dominic Wong 2007). Hence there are urgent needs for better approaches to learning and knowledge management. E-learning can do all that and more. E-learning holds a lot of promise for training and development (Marc J. Rosenberg & Steven Foreman 2010). As a result, e-learning systems have caught on rapidly during the past few years in India. Training process aims to improve knowledge, skills, attitudes, and/or behaviours in a person, to carry out a specific job task or goal of the organization in the long run. Training is often focused on business needs and driven by time-critical business skills and knowledge, and its goal is often to improve performance. Training in key business and professional skills in today’s competitive environment cannot be ignored if you want your employees to develop and help drive the growth of your company. But many companies aren’t using the technology to its full potential. A learning plan could include work experience, research projects, and mentorships and coaching as well.
