This study investigates support resources for homosexual people and their family in Washington State and other states. While many Homosexual marriages increase, many others strong, opposite voices are from society. The prejudice for their marriage is often from their family member, aspects of society. In my long search paper, I will show that how Homosexual people organize their family as a normal family. While some areas such as Washington and California have homosexual marriage cases, other states will provide the most basic materials. This study is based on information from local and national homosexual court cases and government surveys. I also interview my friends who are homosexual. I also will find which states allow or exhibit same sex marriages. In a year where homosexual marriages are being debated in every state, little has been mentioned about addressing the needs of same sex marriages. This study, through its identification of lack of Homosexual marriages and support, is a small step towards parity for homosexual rights in United States. 2 - Purpose statement/rationale This purpose is to fulfill the long research paper. It is the requirement for English 102 and also to serve the same sex marriages in Washington and other states where violate the marriage of rights. This project will also create a case and support in Washington. In addition, the project will determine a collection of sympathy and encouraging message, which can be punished to news. It is an emotional support and to increase their support of same sex marriages in United States. This paper will benefit same sex marriages and their family in United States. 3 - Statement of Qualification I feel I am qualified to write on this topic because I have experience. I did a similar research in my high school, so I already got knowledge about this topic but it was a short report. I am also interested in this topic in a larger country -United States. In addition, I can interview my friends who are a homosexual person. They are my high school classmates. Therefore, I can contact them and have message directly. This can sometimes be a very challenging a long research. While larger states such as Washington have many resources and cases for same sex marriages. This conflict of same sex marriage can be due to cultural, environment and society. I will focus on two states: Washington and California. Washington State is one of states which exhibits same sex marriages.
The two texts examined within, present the opposing extremes of views regarding gay and lesbian marriage. The first text entitled Let Gays Marry by Andrew Sullivan examines the intricacies of same sex relationships and why homosexual couples should be allowed to publicly show affection for one another. The second text that will be examined is titled Leave Marriage Alone written by William Bennett. Bennett gives his views on why couples of same sex nature should not be allowed to engage in marital relations. These two authors, although very different, each has a view of the ideals of marriage, and how it should be presented to the public.
In the following essay, I will cover the history of how homosexuals has been discriminates and treated different just because of their sexual orientation, the types of prejudices against them and initiatives individuals and government has implemented in the political, sociological and educational aspect to help them reach similar standards of life as straight people; and how population is opening their minds to understand this type of behavior, helping society and job market to open their doors to employment opportunities for the gay community.
“Equal rights for lesbians and gay men may be the greatest civil rights battle of the 21st century” (Avery 2007, p. 71). Homosexual couples have been fighting a losing battle for years, and their struggle has recently taken the spotlight once again as a burning topic. Over the years, many people have come to support equal love. However, many Americans still advocate the one man-one woman institution of marriage. The fight for equal rights in general has always been a complex issue. African Americans, women, and many other minorities have had to fight for the rights that they hold today. There are many factors involved in gay activism such as support, attitudes, roles, and the implications of the movement. Social psychology takes a particular interest in gay rights and these factors in particular, as it is a current, controversial topic within American society.
“Being gay is much more profound than simply a sexual relationship; being gay is part of that person’s core identity, and goes right to the very center of his being. It’s like being black in s society of whites, or a blonde European in a nation of black Asians” (Tamara L. Roleff). Although marriage, cohabitation and parenting styles of homosexual families pose no threats to the heterosexual society; many still believe same-sex marriage goes against its true purpose. “At the national level, American public opinion on the issue remains split (44 percent support legalizing same-sex marriage; 53 percent oppose same-sex marriage in a May 2010 Gallup Poll) even as opposition toward legalizing same-sex marriage is at its lowest point in decades (Jones, 2010)” (Amy B. Becker). Also to one’s surprise, among the vast amount of psychological disorders, homosexuality is not one. Homosexuals are just as capable of sustaining stable and successful relationships and families just as heterosexuals.
Love always plays an indispensable role in our life while lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders are found in all age groups, all social classes, and all nations. Thus, it is obvious that homosexual marriage is one of the most biggest concerns. However, in contemporary life, some people are far more open-minded and support to this issue. Particularly, there are twenty-one countries which legalize same-sex marriage. This kind of marriage should be respected and accepted like heterosexual marriage. In spite of objections, this essay will highlight the main reasons that homosexuals should have equal right to marry.
Over the years in our country’s history it has been apparent that the idea of same sex marriages is becoming much more popular, however in most states there is still one thing stopping them. That one thing stopping two people from the pursuit of happiness which they desire is a social injustice. Social injustices are situations where a person or group of people is treated unfairly due to certain factors for example discrimination, prejudice, racism, heterosexism, sexism, and so forth. In the case of same sex marriages, the factor playing a major role in this social injustice is where most people believe that opposite sexes attract, but in the case of a same sex couple wanting to be married, this brings about many topics to be discussed by people, as not everyone thinks the same way. Everyday a same sex couple wants to get married but is either denied their want, or is forced to conform to a civil union. This should not be the case however; people of the same sex should be allowed what every other couple is allowed due to the fact that each and every person has the right to happiness, and the right to marriage despite their sexual orientation.
Same-sex marriage is one of the leading political topics in the United States today. There is an ongoing dispute pertaining to the legalization of same-sex marriages. America has shifted its head to focusing on supporting same-sex marriage or not. Many are for and against this topic but there has been no settlement for it yet. Homosexuals want to marry for the same reason that heterosexuals have and there should be no reason why they are not allowed to. There is some history behind this topic but there has yet to be a solution.
In our group there is a consensusthat homosexuals should have complete equality with everyone else in this country to not only marryand engage in sexual activities, but also to raise children. This is the result of the factthat in the recent past homosexuals, as well as women, have challenged these restrictions in the courts as well as in the media. Their actions have had a tremendous effect not only on our group butalso on a vast amount of people in this country. Just twenty yearsago there would have been a much greater opposition to equality for homosexuals. Butas a result of their involvement, public awareness has been raised. This paper aims to deal with specific constitutional arguments, a number of court cases, the opinions of a few Hunter College students we talkedto, and the role that homosexuals play in the media.
As stated before, there are 37 States that recognize the validy of marital liscense of same sex couples but there is still work to be done becus there are still 12 states and two territories that prohibit the liscensing and/or do not recongizie the lsicense of same sex coupples.
Years before, homosexuality was not accepted in the society. The thought of coming out as lesbian or gay is an alarming thing for homosexuals. Most that were gay hid it from others and did not act upon it. In today’s modern society, there is ample argument concerning the idea of men and women being attracted to anyone other than the opposite sex. Such concepts lead into the topic recognizing the relationship between these people. Because of this, same-sex marriage is quickly becoming one of the most common topics of debate in politics, social media and religion. Luckily, this is the land of the free, and most of us have the legal and social honor to get married. Unluckily, thousands people get left out of this deal for the reason that their partner is the same gender as they are.
The homosexual community faced, and still faces many hardships. Homosexuals are constantly being judged based on their feelings and beliefs. Many homosexuals and supporters believe this is not fair, especially the ones in Ame...
Throughout history people have defined a traditional family dynamic as containing a female mother figure, a male father figure, and the possible children of the household. Societal development has allowed expansion of the definition to include same sex, gay, and transsexual households. Much controversy and opposition has erupted over the change in the family model. Opinions of the public, dictated social norms, and attitudes of existing family members can make life for a LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender) family structure difficult. These biases and discriminations can be direct or indirect. The child or children raised in these households are subject to the same ridicule. One question still of debate is, are there negative effects
... the past several years is the same-sex family. Since the sexual revolution of the 1960’s, changing attitudes have brought more tolerance to the gay and lesbian community. This has somewhat loosened the stigma previously associated with this segment of the population. Along with evolving public attitudes, economic and legal changes in the United States have also reduced barriers previously facing same-sex couples making it more likely for them to form families (Butler, 2004). On the other hand, continued strong institutional ties to marriage between one man and one woman continue to pose problem for this group and shape social agendas (Glenn, 2004; Lind, 2004). While several states and many employers have given recognition and benefits to homosexual partners, there is still no uniform policy in place which addresses their familial rights in the United States.
Same sex marriages are amongst the most controversial topics in the 21st century. Indisputably, it is an issue that the world can hardly ignore owing to the fact that it has perpetuated every sphere of society such as religion, politics and family. The society is more conscious about it now than any other time in history. It is the gravity of this issue that forces leaders, in their campaigns for office elections, to take a stand regarding the matter. Since the United States of America took a bold step to legalize gay marriages, many channels through which the matter can be considered relevant not just in America but worldwide have opened. Different facets of the society have adjusted to embrace gay marriages. For example, there exists churches for gay people and, judicial systems have given in protecting the rights of this minority group especially from discrimination. Additionally, celebrities such as musicians, sports persons, bishops and social elites have been bold enough to confess about their sexual orientation in public. Religious sectors are also loosening their stand on the matter. In the course of time, gay people would no longer be seen as demon-possessed people walking on the surface of the earth (Brownson 12). Despite other nations such as Russia and Uganda condemning gay marriages, an activist for gay people can hope for a revolution that will favor this minority group in future. An ideal society is that which is ready enforce polices that can warrant peace of mind for its members. This includes accepting them with their diverse natural tendencies as long they do not undermine welfare of others. Gay marriages are part of the evolution proce...
Over the last years the topic of same-sex marriage has been of great importance to our society. The idea of the same gender being lawfully married is disturbing to a group of people but in the recent years the number of supporters has increased. The cases that argue for the legalization of same-sex marriage are focusing on the relationship of the individuals and do not see anything in same-sex marriage that could harm our society as a whole. The article “How the President go to ‘I Do’ on Same-Sex Marriage,” published by Joe Becker in April 2014, explains how Barack Obama started saying that he was undecided about the subject matter but is now leaning toward the legalization of same-sex marriage. The subject matter takes a lot of analyzing of what pros and cons are to come from the legalization of same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage is a global argument that deals with unifying two individuals of the same gender under the law. The main reason that supporters give for justifying same-sex marriage is that it is for the same reason as straight people, to show love and commitment to each other. Furthermore, the argument of same-sex marriage is difficult to generalize because of the multiple factors that need to be taken in consideration when making any decision regarding this topic. Although Becker does have true premises, he lacks clarity in his terms which make his argument be false and invalid.
