A Future in Computer Hardware Engineering
Computer Hardware Engineering is something that sparked my interest when I was younger. I was very young when I was first introduced to computers and consoles and such. It mainly started when I was very young and my older brother showed me video games, on systems like the Gameboy. The Gameboy was basically how I started to become interested in video games, and after the handhelds I began to play on consoles. Then in the past couple of years I started to invest my time into computers, or PCs.
I always thought about playing video games on computers for a while but always was blinded by the media today about how much it costs to build a good one. The truth is, is that it’s the most practical form of entertainment combined with work that you could possibly invest in, in the kind of society we have today. It wasn’t until around a little over a year ago that I built my very first computer; I was so excited about it. The reason I decided to build one was since I had always heard that computers were so expensive but if you built them, then it isn’t so much money. Not only was my computer practical for entertainment but also for school.
After building my computer is when I really started thinking about a serious career field in Computer Hardware Engineering. Building a computer really made me realize that this is
something I’m good at and I love learning about. Before this, I had no idea what I was going to be doing. I considered everything from Dental, to Astronomy, to being different kinds of Scientists. In conclusion, I’m very excited about becoming a Computer Hardware Engineer. Throughout my life growing up I always wanted a job that I would love doing but also paid a lot, but I guess what person doesn’t want that. Luckily for me I was blessed with a passion for computer hardware. All that is left for me to do is to finish high school, college, and start my career as a Computer Hardware Engineer!

From a time, longer than I could remember, I had always known that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. My first choice was in Obstetrics, then after a few years, it changed to Dentistry. It was not until around the age of 11 that I discovered the career that I wanted to pursue after college, which was Orthopedic Surgery. Now to this day, this has been the first career choice that I still follow, research, and can proudly say I still hope to obtain.
In society’s current era of technological advancement, video games have gone a long way since they were first created. Video games in the twenty-first century are no longer just toys or junk in the lifestyles of the youth. They have become innovative inventions that not only entertain its users, but also help aid the people in both the academic field and in jobs. The influences that video games bring about in the culture of the youth today are, in fact, not the negative influences that most people think. Video games are actually this generation’s new medium for educating the youth. The information they learn are also mostly positive and useful things that they may apply in their future lives (Prensky 4). In a generation that revolves around technology and connectivity, developers and educators have already been able to produce fun and interesting games that can teach and train people. Video game developers and educators should continue to collaborate in order to create more positive, educational, and appealing games.
Since the Early 70’s video games have been giving a bad name. Parents state that video games rot the minds of children and are influencing them do be violent. These accusations are far from the truth. In my research I found that there are many positive effects of gaming. Some of these effects are increased skills, creativity, general knowledge, and also help those in need. Parents can also take proper precautions and look into a game before buying it to see if it meets the criteria discussed in this paper.
Electrical engineering is the major that I am pursuing during my college career. I decided to pursue this major because it is a career, which requires knowledge in other subjects, it is a career, which changes often, and everyday it provides a person with new problems to solve.

Parents should desire for their children to have educational stability to build upon. There are several negative stereotypes associated with video games and those who play them; some of these may often hold true. However, there are plenty of learning opportunities in video games. While the direct purpose of some games is to educate or train, other games that do not directly have this purpose can still become a learning experience for the player. As Ntiedo Etuk, president of the educational video game company Tabula Digital said, “The traditional view of video games has been that they are distractions from the task of learning” (Electronic Education Report 1). Video games are an effective tool for learning and retaining skills both inside and outside the classroom environment. The basic cycle of game play--the introduction to the game, game play, collaboration, improvement of these between each round, and evaluation at the end of the game (Klievink and Janssen 159)--are nearly parallel to the traditional classroom learning cycle of reading a textbook or listening to a lecture, taking a quiz, studying, focusing on items missed on the quiz, and taking a test or exam.
