Westboro Baptist Church

The Topeka, Kansas-based Westboro Church is a very small homophobic, anti- Semitic hate group that regularly stages protest around the country. The group first started as a non-profit organization in 1967. The Westboro Baptist Church is made up of its pastor, and some of his children and grandchildren. The Westboro Baptist church is well known for picketing places and or events they see as supporting homosexuals or Jews.

This group consists of few people. The ones who have children teach them to hate people who are gay or Jewish. They want their kids to picket signs and hold them up in public places, and even at dead people’s funerals that have died in plane crashes, and American soldiers that died for us in Iraq and Afghanistan. Other people target schools and groups that are accepting of homosexuality: catholic, Lutheran, and other Christian places that WBC feels are heretical. This group is one of the most hated groups in America!

The Westboro Baptist Church started as a Non-Profit organization in 1967. They consider themselves an “old school’’ Baptist church. Their leader Fred Phelps and several of his children and dozens of his grandchildren. Appear to constitute the majority of their group members. They have no official affiliation with mainstream Baptist Organizations.

The pastor Fred Phelps was born as the eldest child to Catherine Johnston and Fred Phelps in Meridian, Mississippi in 1929. He was raised by his aunt after his mom passed away. During his high school years he participated in boy scouts, the school band and newspaper, the schools track and boxing team, a local Methodist church and Junior State Guard. The church Westboro Baptist Church started as “God hates fags” has now devolved into a comprehensive inclusion of nearly every group, nation, and person who is not involved in Westboro Baptist Church. They are quick to say that God hates everyone who does not believe exactly what they do.

Westboro Baptist Church have been banned from other countries because of how hateful they are. In 2008 the church announced that they were going to protest the funeral of a man beheaded on a Greyhound Bus in Canada. Due to that Canada banned the group members from coming into their country.
