A Doll's House, by Henrik Ibsen

In the early 20th century, Nora began her life as the daughter of an educated, oil tycoon by the name of Cordell S. Williams. Business demands would prevent Cordell from having anymore children. Nora was only child. Nora was cordell’s pride and joy. Nora got whatever she wanted. Mr. Williams would eventually lose his wealth as the markets crashed in the year 1913. Broke and unemployed, Cordell turned to a life of crime, going by the gangster alias of Snakeskin Willie. In 1915, Snakeskin Willie was the perpetrator of the London Heights Trust heist, the biggest bank heist of the century. Shortly after the great London Heights caper, pictures of Snakeskin Willie’s infamous mug could be seen on every street post, every church and synagogue, every grocery store and every dank and sleazy, sin-filled establishment throughout the dregs of all major cities in the area. It was at this time that Willie decided to move his family out to the western meadows of the land of England. In the quiet meadowlands, the Williams housing consisted of a 12’ x 12’ cedar shack with a bed, a fireplace and a kitchen table. With an abundance of acreage, Willie decided to begin his new life as a dairy farmer. It was in this new lifestyle at the young age of 11 years old that Nora began her submissive relationship with her father. As Mrs. Elizabeth Williams was riddled with illness after illness, the caretaker duties were handed over to Nora at the age of thirteen. Her duties ranged from cooking to cleaning to bathing her ill mother and tending to her fathers every whim. At the age of 18, at a countryside family gathering Nora was introduced to a twenty five year old m... ... middle of paper ... ...ce was to herself. As Krogstad is fired by Torvald, he black mails Nora so that he may get his job back. Frantically Nora attempts to retrieve the copy of the forgery that she engaged in before Torvald found out. When torvald took notice of Nora’s indiscretion he immediately forebode her to raise his children. It was at this point that I see the ultimate selfish personality of Nora. She decides to leave Torvald and the children. Nora then “decided between the life she had and the life she wanted and she chose the “bella vita”(taken partially from Orlando prosecutor, Linda Drane Burdick, from transcripts of the State of Florida v. Casey Marie Anthony). Nora walked out on her husband. Nora walked out on her children. Where will Nora go? Nobody will ever know. Unless A Doll’s House part 2 has been written that I am unaware of.
