America is an impressionable society. It is a creative director’s job to take advantage of that receptive pliability to advertise different products to the public. Whether people realize it or not, every product they see has subliminal messages to appeal to different types of people. Each of these products has gone through a creative director and his or her team. Creative directors influence the world’s economy and the way consumers think by using a plethora of advertising tactics and sheer ingenuity.
What exactly is a creative director? A creative director thinks of advertising campaigns and slogans for different kinds of products (Snagajob). They are often assisted by one or more copywriters, or people employed to assist them in thinking of different tactics. When a slogan or campaign is agreed upon, the creative director or lead copywriter presents the idea to the company they are campaigning for (Snagajob). If the company likes the idea, it is launched and the agency for which the creative director works receives a percentage of sales money of the product (Snagajob). The advertising agency can handle multiple companies at once. Each assigned company s referred to as an “account” (Snagajob). Depending on revenue generated by the accounts, some may have a higher priority to the advertising agency than others (Groome, *). Some especially large companies may have their own personal creative director to handle business (Snagajob). The average annual income for a creative director is $102,000 (How to be a Creative Director).
Creative directors and their teams have multiple ways of advertising products. Each different way they could advertise is called an “angle” (Groome, *). Angles pertain to what type of person or group o...

“Living in an age of advertisement, we are perpetually disillusioned.” ~J.B. Priestley sums up the reality of our media today. We are constantly being influenced and affected by advertisements and how we react to them. Advertisements have a great effect on us and how we operate. Advertisements attempt to control what we should wear, how we should look, what we should eat, what we should do, how we should think, and how we should smell. This magazine advertisement is very convincing of what type of perfume we should wear. “Moschino Couture!” uses an attractive woman, simplistic layout and sample perfume to sell us the product we all yearn for.

Before watching “The Persuaders”, I never realized the cyclical process that advertisers go through to keep consumers interested and focused on their products. The constant pressure that these persuaders face often causes them to outsource for help from experts that know what works and what doesn’t. This means that advertising agencies are constantly being hired and fired, making this a fast-paced, ever-changing industry.
Advertisements are one of many things that Americans cannot get away from. Every American sees an average of 3,000 advertisements a day; whether it’s on the television, radio, while surfing the internet, or while driving around town. Advertisements try to get consumers to buy their products by getting their attention. Most advertisements don’t have anything to do with the product itself. Every company has a different way of getting the public’s attention, but every advertisement has the same goal - to sell the product. Every advertisement tries to appeal to the audience by using ethos, pathos, and logos, while also focusing on who their audience is and the purpose of the ad. An example of this is a Charmin commercial where there is a bear who gets excited when he gets to use the toilet paper because it is so soft.
The role of an art director in advertising is to bring ideas and projects to final completion in collaboration with others within a creative team. Working with others is a major role of an art director as stated in the online lectures “Collaboration is a key component of the responsibilities of an art director” (Barlow, Tonya). In bringing projects to completion an art director can also take on the role of a supervisor, cost estimator, budget analyst, and/or facilitator. In advertising, the art director must ensure that the final advertisement is able to call people to action by making it relevant to the target audience and presenting it via a media that will
It was even before the counter culture took hold in the media that admen were rejecting technical expertise and bureaucracy, feuding with traditional means of advertising that put emphasis on rationality, rules, and statistics (56). Advertising reached a Creative Revolution, in which firms like Doyle Dane Bernbach lead the way in giving creative workers more say, and governed more opposition to traditional orders of power within the industry (57). It was also in advertising’s quest for creativity that it found a new understanding of consumerism. The industry recognized the need for nonconformity as an element of a shifted capitalism, and in turn rethought its ads in order to make similar products stand out and offer consumers the chance to be idolized and admired
Ads take a combination of layout, lighting, perfect scenes and actors/actresses, clothing, etc. in order for society to understand what needs to be taken from the view. Creating ads are jobs for people and it finds a place in their heart. They may not realize how damaging their ads are because when looking at their own work they see perfection and a lot of time and money spent. This feeling is the social norm for many jobs. An example of this is how doctors view patients as their time and hard work paying off after surgeries.
Advertising agencies realize how influential advertisements are on people. They are responsible for the catchy slogans and jingles that are forever stuck in our minds. These creativ...

This case study involves an interactive team working for Advert marketing firm on a new ad campaign for one of the firm’s most important clients. The team of Evan, Conner, Alexis, Derek and Judy was picked by upper management based on their similar talents, personalities, and biographical features such as age and tenure at Advert. This group was tasked with creating an innovative ad campaign to promote a 60-inch plasma television. Due to Advert’s confidence in the team, they were given complete autonomy throughout the entire process of creating the campaign. During the initial discussion, the team selected an idea for the commercial and ran with it. Upon presenting the final product to their managers and the client, the ad was met with disapproval, ending the working relationship between Advert and the client.

Advertising has been defined as the most powerful, persuasive, and manipulative tool that firms have to control consumers all over the world. It is a form of communication that typically attempts to persuade potential customers to purchase or to consume more of a particular brand of product or service. Its impacts created on the society throughout the years has been amazing, especially in this technology age. Influencing people’s habits, creating false needs, distorting the values and priorities of our society with sexism and feminism, advertising has become a poison snake ready to hunt his prey.
