A Brief History of Engineering

681 Words2 Pages

When you look around, you see all kinds of modern wonders. None of these items would be possible without engineering. Engineering has shaped the lives of humans for thousands of years; it is simply the application of science and math to invent or innovate an item to carry out a human need. Recently, computer engineering has been the basis of the human world. We rely on computers like it is water or air, and it’s come to the point where they could be a necessity for success. Computers are used for pictures, data, development, research, design and much more. The mere fact that humanity prospered for so long without advanced computers is astonishing.

Engineering has been around since the early ages of man. The wheel was thanks to primitive engineering, as was the light bulb and telephone. Engineering has served many developing countries and helped those in need. For example, prosthetic arms serve those without necessary limbs, the WaterWheel-created by Wello- aids people in developing countries as they carry large amounts of water.
Engineering has evolved since the beginning of time. Most engineers have been successful due to trial and error. Thomas Jefferson, for instance, failed many times before creating the light bulb, which he is now famous for. Another popular trial and error procedure is the scientific method. Most researchers use the scientific method in order to get a successful result, or a not so successful outcome.
Nowadays, engineering has been reduced to something less than simple. It’s still a hard and long process, but it has been made a lot more efficient. Smaller and smaller innovations and inventions are being made. Small, paper thin, portable microscopes, water wheels, and devices that can display yo...

...ve the product would be if Wello decided to make their water wheel a robot that carries water to and fro daily.
Wello has a great opportunity for success. The water wheel is already working well, all it needs is more publicity. If more people knew about Wello and its mission, they could go really far. They add to the reason of why engineering is so important. Engineering is just going to advance in the future and Wello is one example of a current advance. New technology, robots, and devices to help third world countries will help our society and change the world for the better. There is no limitation to what engineering can make; everything that we used to think was impossible is now a reality. The fact that phasers and universal translators exist is just merely astonishing. What humanity once dreamed about can actually become what humanity relies on in the future.
