In the team project this semester, I intend to contribute to the success of the team in designing, building, and operating a method for dispensing the rings into the boxes and writing functional code for the robot. I am intrigued by the design of a ring dispensing method. In the robot competition last semester, I noticed a certain flaw in most of the robots which dispensed rings. The flaw was that they all used a servo to deliver the ring. If the robot did not properly line up with the box the ring would not land inside of the box. In order to solve this problem, I devised a way for the rings to be dispensed without the need of a servo. By not using a servo, the ring dispensing has to be triggered by the robot lining up with the box …show more content…

This aspect of the competition complements one of my strengths. This strength is having a creative mind. Without a creative mind it would be difficult to design a device for which to dispense the rings into the boxes throughout the track. Along with building a ring dispensing device, I contribute to the success of the team by furnishing a code for the robot. Last semester, the team I was a part of was complemented by various other teams and a couple of professors for how our code functioned. One of the teachers complimented on our robot’s ability to follow the line smoothly and efficiently. I was responsible for a large portion of the line following code. This semester, I intend to contribute to the success of the team by writing a large portion if not all of the line following code. This aspect of the competition highlights another one of my strengths. This strength is the ability to view a problem as a series of individual problems instead of one large problem. In coding, if a single value is off, then it can affect parts of the code which did not need to be changed. Instead of viewing the problem as part of the code not functioning right, I view it as a series of problems which result in a large …show more content…

A mechanical engineer would deal with building the machine which dispenses a ring. I find a mechanical engineer to be the most interesting position which accomplishes the need goal. The profession is interesting because it deals with everything from the design to the manufacturing to the transportation of the product. A mechanical engineer is involved in finding the most cost efficient ways of making the Along with designing the ring dispensing device, a mechanical engineer would also have to find the most cost effective ways of creating the device. A mechanical engineer would also have to follow any other guidelines laid out by the team leader. Another role a mechanical engineer would fill on the robot team would be writing part of the code. They would be responsible for writing the code which applies to the delivery of the ring. The mechanical engineer would have to code for what responses the robot gathers from the sensor(s) in order to trigger the delivery of the ring. Consequently, a mechanical engineer would be the profession that most interests me and also accomplishes my role in the
