Personal Narrative on Innocence
Innocence isn’t necessarily lost by age or maturity. I think many things can kill it, but it also can be regained. You never realize when your innocence is gone either. Many people assume that by entering high school that they are fully mature and they know just about everything, but assume would be the key word. I have always thought that my purity had vanished long before junior year. I will admit that there were times when I would have a childlike thought, idea, or action but I never gave them a second consideration. To me, they were like the thoughts that come into your head, but then are gently guided away unintentionally. I always thought, “Mara, you’re in high school. You need to be acting mature which means thinking maturely. No more playing and having fun”. Eventually my innocence had just about disappeared. Or so I thought.
My own innocence resurfaced one night while having a cabin sleep over with my friend Kari, her two younger sisters, Amy in 8th grade and Sarah in 4th grade, and her dog, Koko. All five of us lying on a pull out bed seemed to tug at my 4th grade feelings.
Forgotten feelings of pretending to be asleep when your parents walked down, giggling about nothing, talking about boys rather than “men”, and tickling each other until you scream. Sarah lectured Kari, Amy, and me on how boys are “icky” and she won’t like any until she’s 30 years old and wants to get married. The speech concluded with Kari telling Sarah ab...
Analyzing innocence has always been a difficult task, not only due to it’s rapid reevaluation in the face of changing societal values, but also due to the highly private and personal nature of the concept. The differences between how people prioritize different types of innocence - childhood desires, intellectual naivety, sexual purity, criminal guilt, etc. - continually obscures the definition of innocence. This can make it difficult for people to sympathize with others’ loss of purity, simply because their definition of that loss will always be dissimilar to the originally expressed idea. Innocence can never truly be adequately described, simply because another will never be able to precisely decipher the other’s words. It is this challenge, the challenge of verbally depicting the isolationism of the corruption of innocence, that Tim O’Brien attempts to endeavour in his fictionalized memoir, The

The setting of a novel aids in the portrayal of the central theme of the work. Without a specific place and social environment, the characters are just there, with no reason behind any of their actions. The Age of Influence centers around the Old New York society during the 1870’s. Most of the characters are wealthy upper class citizens with a strict code to follow. The protagonist, Newland Archer, lives in a constant state of fear of being excluded from society for his actions. Archer’s character is affected by standard New York conventions as well as the pressure to uphold his place in society, both of which add to Wharton’s theme of dissatisfaction.
I have navigated and “danced” with several techniques, but I still have to settle for a theory that I would like to further explore. I recognize that it take years of experience in this field to find a therapy that to conform to and practice regularly. Nevertheless, it is appropriate for therapists to be flexible and explore various therapy techniques in order to better serve the diverse client population. I would also like to continue attending workshops and conferences in order to keep learning about new ideas and promising new treatments. Simply, with less than 100 client-contact hours I am not ready to formally adhere to a
Innocence is the stage that separates a child from the adult world. In Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird the loss of innocence is the way to adulthood. In Lee’s novel, a young girl scout starts to grow and see that reality is not always what it seems. She was forced to see the ugliness and the prejudice of society but at the end of it all she became a much wiser person from it. It was with the use of foreboding experiences such as dealing with the verdict of the Tom Robinson case that forced a change in her mentality. It was also with the use of motifs, like the mockingbirds that in themselves represent innocence. In short, it takes losing one’s innocence and nativity to become a wiser person to the ways of the
They specifically found 17 factors which influenced effective treatment, including pacing, structure, coping skills, hypnotherapy, grounding processes, self-disclosed insight, client-centeredness, modeling, and identifying and assigning alter roles. For example, grounding processes which participants spoke about included being able to listen to meditation tapes recorded by the therapist or even calling the therapists voicemail simply to hear their voice. Hearing the voice would remind them of a sense of calm and security which is provided during therapy sessions. The techniques echo the above conclusions as well, but this study also emphasized the importance of a therapist being human. This would involve modeling appropriate emotions, such as enthusiasm; sharing enough so that the client would recognize the empathy of the therapist; and even showing sincere emotions when they are moved, including the therapist even tearing up. These helped build a positive and supportive -- but professional -- relationship, and is further improved when there are clear boundaries provided.

The simple definition of war is a state of armed competition, conflict, or hostility between different nations or groups; however war differs drastically in the eyes of naive children or experienced soldiers. Whether one is a young boy or a soldier, war is never as easy to understand as the definition. comprehend. There will inevitably be an event or circumstance where one is befuddled by the horror of war. For a young boy, it may occur when war first breaks out in his country, such as in “Song of Becoming.” Yet, in “Dulce et Decorum Est” it took a man dying in front of a soldier's face for the soldier to realize how awful war truly is. Both “Song of Becoming” and “Dulce et Decorum Est” are poems about people experiencing the monstrosity of war for the first time. One is told from the perspective of young boys who were stripped of their joyful innocence and forced to experience war first hand. The other is from the perspective of a soldier, reflecting on the death of one of his fellow soldiers and realizing that there is nothing he can do to save him. While “Song of Becoming” and “Dulce et Decorum Est” both focus on the theme of the loss of innocence, “Song of Becoming” illustrates how war affects the lives of young boys, whereas “Dulce et Decorum Est” depicts the affect on an experienced soldier.
With over fifty-seven percent of respondents suggesting we should consider it, the question remains would this be an effective way to help counter the current drug epidemic? Some respondents suggested that it should be for a case by case basis. Another noted that if the United States were to adopt the idea of decriminalization when it comes to personal possession of small quantities, the user must remain peaceful and nonviolent while also not in some public areas for example, public schools, public parks, public events. Fifteen percent of the respondents also selected the answer “I don’t know” which is fair. At this point in time it is hard to find what methods are effective, what drugs are dangerous, and so on. Most would assume the public would agree decriminalization with an emphasis on other programs such as drug education and rehab is a much more viable method than decriminalization
On that fateful day in March, I was a couple months shy of my third birthday. My family and I lived in New Mexico at the time and were renting a house with an outdoor in-ground pool. The day was beautiful. I was outside with my oldest sister Rachel and my father. Rachel was diligently reading curled up on a bench that sat against the house, and my father was mowing the backyard. My mother and my other sister were in the house. Off to one side of the house there was a group of large bushes. I was playing over there with one of her large cooking pots, off in my own little world. At one point while amusing and en...
It was a rainy day, and the city of London appeared to be lifeless. I observed the short menu in front of me as I sat in a small, blue booth at the back of ‘Monmouth Coffee and Crepes’. The door of the rustic coffee shop swung open, and the jingle of the bells attached to the door handle made me look up. A tall, blond man wearing dark jeans and a red hoodie, walked past the waitress who nearly swooned at the sight of his sharp jawline. Keeping his head down, the young man walked all the way back to my booth, and sat down across from me. “Why did you call me here?” he raised his head and big hazel eyes stared down at me. Clearing my throat, I bent my legs underneath me, and sat upon them in a bid to appear taller.
Wildfires are usually caused by careless humans or large lightning strikes. However, scientists believe that the wildfires that have recently occured have been caused by drastic climate changes. Areas have gotten hotter and drier than they have been in the past.
The most common natural cause of a wildfire is from lighting strikes. Throughout 2007 to 2011 the United States local fire department has responded to an average of 22,500 fires per year that were a cause of lighting strikes. Out of those fires there were a total of nine deaths and fifty-three individuals injured. 63 percent of the lightning fires were fueled by outdoor vegetation. The summer months are the lighting peak, which are also the months that are the hottest and driest months of the year. Throughout the world in places such as Canada and northwest China lightning is the major cause of wildfires. Other natural forms of wildfires include things such as volcanic eruptions, a spontaneous combustion from the sun and a dry piece of vegetation, or something such as sparks from rock falls. In the United States humans cause nine out of ten wildfires. Human carelessness is the most common cause of wildfires, which makes it questionable if it should be labeled as a natural disaster. One of the common ways humans cause wildfires is from arson. Arson is the intentional, deliberately and maliciously setting fire to buildings, wild lands, homes, vehicles, or other property to cause damage. Another careless way that humans can be an ignition of a wild fire is the discarding of cigarettes, which cause castaways. An estimate of about five percent of all wildfires is cause from smoking alone, which shows the carelessness of individuals. With people switching from smoking to vaping there is a decline in the amount of fires that are cause from smoking. Equipment is another huge cause of wildfires due to the high temperature that heavy machinery produces. Many construction projects that are done in the woods have their equipment left at the sight overnight which doesn’t get observed until the project continues. Heavy machinery causes sparks that can drift for yards, which can eventually land
I do not believe that all drugs should be legalized although the extent to which legal action is taken should be changed. All drugs should be decriminalized, which would significantly change the prison population statistics where we don’t have over 75,000 individuals in prison due to a drug offense. Although there should be some type of fine or other consequence for the possession and use of certain drugs and to determine which drugs are illegal should be based on the mindset it causes for a person. Drugs that affect behavior and cause a decrease in functionality of a person to the point where they are in a mindset to harm others and unable to function in society should deem the drug illegal while drugs such as marijuana should be illegal because there has been no evidence against it that is causing harm to others or even death for those who partake using. Therefore, as a whole I believe to an extent there should be legalization of drugs but those that can put other individuals in society at risk should remain
The legalization of drugs has been a heavily disputed argument for many decades. If drugs were to be legalized, there would be many benefits that follow. The argument claims that there are two reasons why drugs should not be legalized. One being because moral reasons and the second reason is because of the consequences legalization would bring to our culture; but in reality, the legalization of illegal drugs is very beneficial for both of these issues. In fact the US as a nation would be a much better and safer place for our future generation. Legalization would lower crime rates, generate jobs and also generate more money for the federal government and states.
