At the beginning of the semester it had been over six years since I had been in an English class, So naturally filled with panic and discomfort with the subject I began the class with low personal expectations. However putting forth my best effort I attempted to take everything presented to me in stride. Things that were problems to begin with were Grammar, Sounding arrogant, according to a pretest, and staying on the subject during a paper. Things that sparked my interest are peer reviews and using the meal plan. With those things being said I’d like to go into further detail about how I’ve felt about my time spent and performance. During this semester I showed up as often as I could out of fear of falling behind. I also never stopped trying to retain the information that was presented. My intentions for further English classes are to show up even more because falling two or three days behind were detrimental. Personally I showed myself that I’ve got a pretty solid work ethic and that is something that should be retained for all my future classes. …show more content…
The concept was completely foreign to begin with, however after extended amounts of work at it the style eventually began to make sense. The style consists of each paragraph starting with a main idea. This gives your paragraphs something to be based on. The next subsection of meal plan is the E which is the examples and evidence to support your main topics claim. The evidence and examples also provide logic and purpose about what is being said. The A section of meal plan stands for analysis, to do this you have to describe what the evidence and examples actually mean or why they are that specific way. After all of that you finally have the L which links it all back together and reaffirms your main
Entering this course I was worried because I have struggled with writing in the past, and writing has never been my strongest area. I feared writing classes in middle and high school, and had the same expectations for this course. I had wondered if I was ready for college English, and was worried that my skills and abilities would not be one the level they needed to be for college courses. My attitude and understanding of my writing process have both changed since the beginning of this semester. One thing that really helped my attitude and confidence was the fact that I was able to complete the assignments and get a decent grade. I was worried that I might not be able to do college level writing, and when I started completing the assignments and learning new ways to write my confidence and attitude changed. Another thing that really helped me throughout this course was that there was plenty of reading and information available to guide me through my assignments. I realized that there was more freedom when it comes to writing than I had experienced in high school. Being able to write more freely, and the freedom to choose what subjects I would write over made the assignments more enjoyable and easier to
Although, I have been a good student at school, I always have struggles doing my homework like any other student. Sometimes, it is difficult to me to understand my assignments; however, I always try to obtain a knowledge from my courses. In this case English 111, like any other course left a mark on my academic and personal life.
I came into this class under the impression that I already wrote well enough and wouldn’t need to improve. However, as I progressed through the semester I learned that there is always room to grow. The first paper I produced was not at the level I was hoping but after I actively decided to improve my writing my papers became much better. Looking back on my work in the class I wonder how much my writing has changed and where I still have room to improve. Without evaluating my work I can’t hope to become any better. Through this class I have grown much as a writer but there is still more I can learn.
My first college English class was ENC 1101 at the State College of Florida. In this course, I learned a vast amount of information about writing, reading, and grammar. When I first walked into ENC 1101 in August, I expected the class to be like any other English class in High School; with rushed busy work and a lot of useless tests and quizzes. However, throughout each week of the semester, Professor Knutsen’s class made me beg to differ. This class was not like any other high school English class. In this class I actually learned important information and did not do work just to complete it. This class had a few assignments here and there, enough to maintain, in order to learn proper information. I learned a lot in this class because I was not rushed to
The first day of my junior year I was extremely overwhelmed by this class; all the essays we were required to write in the first week didn't help much either. However, since the beginning of the year I have learned so many useful and important lessons which have guided my learning throughout this first semester and, I'm assuming, will continue to guide me for the rest of my high school experience and beyond. In addition, I have made many goals which pertain to essays I have written, and I believe I have met those goals.
Learning to read and write is something we all have experienced. Some experiences being difficult than others. As a kid, I can remember trying to read the daily newspapers, different types of magazines, books, and addresses on mail; basically, I tried reading anything that had words on it. My favorite thing to read were the back of cereal boxes. Nothing made me more excited than sitting at my white and pink Barbie table and chair set eating cereal while eyeballing the back of a cereal box. Only being able to correctly read one or two words, it was the first time I really felt accomplished.
This fall semester of 2014 has been an interesting and learning experience for myself. I haven’t attend school in nearly a decade and was unsure of what to expect from my teachers and myself. I would have to say being in Professor Dybala’s English 1302 to start my school day is interesting. She is an energetic professor and I’m able to feel her passion for teaching and that motivate me to try my best in her class as the rest of my classes. I was driven to do the best of my ability and whatever the outcome might be, I know I did my best.
We were standing in line outside of class waiting for our teacher. In front of me was Angel and his best friend.
“Zarais can you read page number three?” I looked up at the teacher and panicked.
The first time I played chess I lost badly. I decided to learn the rules, I practiced alone, and read about techniques to improve my strategies. After lots of practice, I played against my friend’s father and won. During the summer semester, I decided to enroll in English Composition I because I needed help to communicate in a formal and scholarly setting. During my time in Mr. Branson’s English Composition course, I grasped a better understanding of grammar, sentence structure, and writer’s perspective. I believed writing an essay was just like playing chess. I needed to know the rules, develop a strategy and use techniques to accomplish my goal of connecting with my audience and readers.
In summary, I had an enjoyable time in my first college English class. I pushed myself as diligently as I could and learned much more than I thought I would. In addition to, my strengths grew stronger and my weaknesses improved as well. I acknowledge I still have some techniques and skills to work on; however, I am willing to put the time in and cannot wait to take English in the future. Writing is an everlasting skill that will be an enormous asset to me; in addition to my future classes, and my career as
I remember the first day of my English class like it was yesterday. Term one just started and the class is waiting for the teacher to come. I remember looking down and seeing someone with sandals and was kind of confused, but brushed it off. I felt like every single teacher was going to leave, just like the first year at Jackson Preparatory and Early College. I found myself in a place where I didn’t know if I could trust teachers, because all my life I felt no need to, and didn’t find any reason to talk to them whenever I needed advice or if I had a problem. Every time I found that I liked a teacher, a couple weeks later, they just left without notice. At Jackson Preparatory and Early College, the very first year, we had a staff issue. We slowly
For half a year I’ve been in this class, I’ve learned many things about money and about myself. Like I have always kinda known that I don’t want to have kids because I do not want to disappoint them, but now it is not just disappointment that I’m afraid of. Now I’m afraid of the money, I most likely won’t be able to support myself so I most definitely will not be able to support a child. I’ve also learned that I am terrified of having money, it is awful but the world runs on it so you have to have it. I’ve learned a lot during this class, some on purpose and some by accident.
Eight years ago, running around in every house’s front yard in a small village was a girl who would never think of speaking another language or yet living in a different country. As I grew older I was slowly being introduced to the English language. From movies to music to school is where it all began. This long and strenuous journey to learn how to read and write still continues to this very moment as I learn from my mistakes.
My name's Amber, I'm a fourteen year old girl. Plus I am diagnosed with cerebral palsy which is a problem with the part of the brain that controls the body movements. Also, I have a caring mom, dad, and an eight year old sister, I love my whole family, but sometimes it's hard for me to express it. On the weekdays I go to Deerpark Middle School. I'm in eighth grade, and I have wonderful teachers like Mrs. Huffman, Mrs. Kobren, Mr. Wildis, Mr. Williams, Mrs. Pikas, Coach Vazquez and Amy. In school I try to do my best. I have U.S History with Mrs. Huffman, which is my weakest area in school. However, my wonderful teacher makes sure that I don't fall behind in my studies, and my mom helps me with my homework. I have an eighty-nine percent average in history, but she's quite strict because she thinks that I'm a normal kid. However, sometimes I feel like it's way too much for me to handle!
