The JFK Assassination
This interview was conducted with my friend’s father on the assassination of JFK, and the impact it had on life in America.
Q: How old were you when JFK was assassinated?
A: I was only 15 at the time, but I can vividly recall it
Q: What was your very first reaction?
A: Well, I was shocked I really couldn’t believe it. I mean, you hear about the
Lincoln’s assassination but it never seemed real. Now JFK was assassinated and it seemed like it could never happen, it was just like a dream.
Q: How did your parents react?
A: They seemed more upset than sad. They couldn’t believe that this could happen, they were upset that such a man as JFK could be dead, just like that. He did so much to change the way people think, act, and feel in this country and he’d never be back. Q: What was the general mood?
A: At the time we lived in a very tight neighborhood in Pittsburgh. Around that neighborhood you could see things change. Morale was lower than I could ever remember, everybody was sad.

A: I don’t ever really remember seeing it replayed over and over on TV, they really didn...

This heartening quote was provided by a man who literally shot for the stars all the way up until the day he was shot down. While being the youngest and first Roman Catholic president, John F. Kennedy always influenced America to strive for the best. Until an unbearable silence struck the American people, he was removed from society in 1963. There were numerous believed causes regarding Kennedy’s death. There is the belief that Oswald shot him as a lone gun man. There are also other theories that state that there could have been more than one gun man. Some people even presuppose that the CIA is hiding the real story. Some effects of the assassination were catastrophic to the American people. We will never know if some of the Vietnam results would have commutated. Another effect was more of an emotional one. Many Americans were vulnerable, and they felt as if America would not be able to recover from this vast bereavement. Regardless, there are causes and effects when evaluating the John F. Kennedy assassination.

For JFK’s Speech he seems to use all three approached to convince us that discrimination is just as cruel and vile as slavery. That’s 6,646 divorces per day, and 46,532 divorce per week. This is a social issue within our society that has many negative effects on everyone facing this circumstance. The divorce rate in the U.S is a problem that shows an increase in its rates compared to the past decades. According to the U.S Census Bureau, around 50 percent of marriages end in a divorce. There are many reasons for divorce from “hard” reasons (e.g., abuse and adultery) to “soft” reasons (e.g., psychological and relational problems). The two most destructive reasons for a divorce is physical violence or alcohol and drug problems, but these reason are less frequently are seen as reasons for divorce. The most common reasons for divorce are the “soft” reasons. According to William, a recent national survey found that 73% said the “lack of commitment” was their major reason for divorce. Other reasons were “ too much arguing, infidelity, marrying too young, unrealistic expectations, lack of equality in the relationship, lack of preparation for marriage, and abuse” (William, p10). Divorce has known to be a second most stressful life event, came before only by the death of a spouse and what is that stress capable? It is dispatching a serious about of anxiety and depression to people’s limbic system as emotional center in the brain.
