Hamlet is a tragedy written by the famous William Shakespeare. Hamlet goes insane in the play, because his mixture of love for his father and Ophelia. Then having hate to his mother and Claudius, because Hamlet knows what Claudius did to his father. Hamlet is normal in the beginning of the play. Then gets a visit from his dead father, and finds out his father was murdered. Hamlet’s father (Hamlet Sr.) wants Hamlet to avenge his death. Hamlet Sr. was the king, and then his brother, Claudius, wanted to be king. Next Claudius killed Hamlet Sr., and the short after that married his brother’s wife, Queen Gertrude. In the quote above Hamlet shows insane/sassy mood going between him, and others around him. His mother was telling Hamlet that he should not be wearing black cloths since their is a new king. Hamlet explains that he is expressing just a little of what he is feeling. This feeling he has now will contribute to Hamlet going insane. The language structure changes a lot when Shakespeare wrote Hamlet. For example the mood in the quote above is a mixture of sadness, and hate due to his father passing. Hamlet is insane due to many reasons listed in Hamlet, but I don’t have time to tell you all of them. Hamlet’s father died or you could say murdered. After Hamlet’s Sr. death. Hamet started to see his father’s ghost. Hamlet’s insane moments were getting more violent as he went on. Hamlet almost killed his Uncle Claudius who became king, and married the queen. Hamlet killed Polonius, who was Ophelia’s father. This happened when he was talking to his mother. He was obsessed with finding the truth of his father’s death, and with that soon led Hamlet to his own death. Having both sides on whether Hamlet is insane or he is just faking it. This can really help clear up a picture of Hamlet, and help readers decide for themselves if he is insane or he was faking. In some acts, and scenes Hamlet is pushing people’s buttons. The play depicts Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark, who it visited by the ghost of his father, King Hamlet. Hamlet is in love with Ophelia, but her brother, Laertes, and father, Polonius, warn her that Hamlet can never really love her. Throughout the play, Hamlet shows that he understands real from fake, right from wrong and his enemies from his friends. Even in his madness, he retorts and is clever in his speech and has full understanding of what if going on around him. Most importantly, Hamlet does not think like that of a person who is mad. Hamlet only claims madness because it allows him to say and perform actions he otherwise would be prohibited from, while keeping people from taking his actions seriously. This seems to be part of his initial plan that is first mentioned when he asks Horatio and Marcellus not to make any remarks in relation to his ?antic disposition (1.5.192).? Hamlet?s madness allows him to talk to Claudius, Gertrude, Ophelia, and Polonius in a manner unsuitable for a prince. He is often disrespectful and insulting in his remarks. Although his acting backfires during his speech to Gertrude, Hamlet is able to severely criticize her for her actions because she thinks he is insane. During the play he also makes many sexual innuendos and even blatantly sexual remarks towards Ophelia such as ?That?s a fair thought to lie between maids? legs (3.2.125).? His convincing insanity act gives him the chance to vent his anger towards Ophelia for her abandonment.
Hamlet has mood swings as his mood changes abruptly throughout the play. Hamlet appears to act mad when he hears of his father's murder. At the time he speaks wild and whirling words:Why, right; you are I' the right; And so, without more circumstance at all, I hold it fit that we shake hands and part... Hamlet is without a doubt one of the most complex pieces to interpret for many different scholars and people. The question of the truth behind his madness has become a debate among anyone who lays eyes on the play. In fact, madness becomes a large role within the play that will cause many situations as well as effect them. I believe Hamlet unintentionally went mad attempting to act as a mad man.
Upon learning that Ophelia has allied herself with Polonius and Claudius, he loses his head and has an incredibly dramatic episode. He is initially honest and open with Ophelia, but his mood quickly changes when he learns they are being spied on. He questioned Ophelia’s motives by asking whether she was honest and fair. He breaks her heart upon the realization she is not on his side. He tells her that he once loved her, then their conversation spirals into nothing more than Hamlet hurling insults at his former love before storming out.

What makes a person truly crazy? Is it the way that they dress or is it the way they they they talk? It even may be their actions that cause you to believe that a person has truly gone crazy. Although Hamlet appears to have gone crazy to other characters in this book, the reader can see Hamlet is actually sane throughout the whole entire book. The explanations to why Hamlet is sane are as follows: his change in character is just an effect of his father, any crazy actions of Hamlet were to justify him after he killed Claudius to avenge his father’s death, he shows intelligence and is able to plan for events throughout the story.

Hamlet’s intellectual brilliance make it seem too impossible for him to actually be mad, for to be insane means that one is irrational and without any sense. When one is irrational, one is not governed by or according to reason. So, Hamlet is only acting mad in order to plan his revenge on Claudius.

Hamlet is deciding what he wants others to think about him. Polonius, a close confidant of the King, is the leading person responsible for the public's knowledge of Hamlet's madness. The idea that Hamlet is mad centers around the fact that he talks to the ghost of his dead father. He communicates with his dead father's ghost twice, in the presence of his friends and again in the presence of his mother. By being in public when talking to the ghost, the rumor of his madness is given substance.
In William Shakespeare’s masterpiece Hamlet, there is much debate around the protagonist, Hamlet, and whether or not his madness in the play was real or feigned. It was a disastrous time in the prince, Hamlet’s life as his father had just passed away, his uncle then took the kingship and wed Hamlet’s mother, then the ghost of his deceased father appeared to him with instructions for revenge and, finally, the love of his life was no longer permitted to see the prince by order of the lady’s father. This would seem to many to be reason enough for an individual to lose touch with reality and fall into madness, but this was not the case with the brilliant, strong-minded Hamlet. Though the prince displayed numerous signs of madness during the play, Hamlet never lost touch with reality as he continued acting rational both in his thoughts as well as while speaking with certain individuals. If Hamlet were truly insane, he would not have been able to suddenly stop displaying his insanity as he did in the play after his altercation with Laertes in the graveyard.
