Communication has been around since there has been life on earth. We communicate in two different ways; verbally and non-verbally. Verbal communication is talking, singing, basically, using our voice. Non-verbal communication is facial expressions, body language, eye contact and sign language. People may not realize it, but they communicate non- verbally all of the time, even when there isn’t any word said. It is basic human instinct to communicate whether it be for an emergency or just for entertainment. Ethos is the credibility someone has. Logos is the logic or reasoning someone use. Pathos is the emotion someone has. People use these concepts of rhetoric to communicate with each other. Ethos is for what is called professionals; for the people who have a deeper understanding of the topic of discussion. Examples of the type of people that use ethos are anybody with a higher education in the health field, scientist, famous people. Logos is used to make the topic make sense to people. A pencil is a form of paint brush, a blank canvas can be turned in the most beautiful and colorful masterpiece that the creator didn't even know about in the beginning. Writing is how people get their thoughts and emotions out, thoughts and emotions are not technicality, they are a basic human action. Everybody can learn about the technicalities of writing, but the way people write will be the same. Humans want original thoughts and not the same- old ideas that they can get from someone else. By writing only with the technicalities, makes the paper basic, boring, and expected. People can tell when someone got caught up in the technicalities of writing, instead of writing the way they want

On September 11, 2001, America was forever changed. On this day, America faced the biggest terrorist attack that had ever been carried out; thousands of people lost their lives that day. Throughout the sadness and mourning of this terrible event, George Bush addressed the nation with one of the most memorable speeches. When President Bush addressed the nation, he stated that America is strong and they could try to bring us down, but we will not be broken.This speech gave hope to many Americans and helped them remember to stay strong. This day will be forever remembered for all the souls that lost their lives and the brave people who threatened their own life to save others.
Inside out is a movie about a girl named Riley Anderson who is born with five emotions joy, sadness, fear, disgust and anger. These emotions are housed in Riley’s mind called headquarters. Each emotion plays a very big role in Riley’s life because they chose how she should feel during every second of the day since she was born. As riley got older things changed and her parents decided to move to San Francisco. Moving to a different state and city really made Riley’s life go downhill. Riley’s emotions fear, anger, disgust, and sadness were put into effect when she realizes she has to start a new school, and make new friends. In the 1960’s America was divided over the voting rights of African Americans. It was a time of racial and political unrest as president Lyndon B. Johnson encouraged Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act. On March 16, 1965 “We Shall Overcome” was delivered to congress. Lyndon B. Johnson was elected vice president of the United States in 1960 and became the 36th president in 1963. Throughout his speech Johnson uses a variety of strategies to persuade the nation that African Americans have the right to vote. Some of these strategies include ethos, logos, and pathos.
Is education wasted on low income families? Are housing projects and ghettos nothing except undying monsters for taxpayers to fight? According to society, maybe. According to Principal Clark, no. Not only does he believe in his students, but he forces them to believe in themselves. Joe Clark makes very compelling appeals to the three rhetorical devices, pathos, ethos and, logos. Joe Clark was an excellent principal in all areas, this idea is further proven by the speech he gave his students before their skills test.
Jason Silva is a television personality, filmmaker, and performance philosopher. His Facebook page appears to be one of promotion and information. His profile picture is of himself in front of a surreal landscape in which there is a wall with a man looking over it and into the universe. This helps set the tone and brand of his personality: philosophical, futuristic, surreal, and so on and so forth. This is further displayed in his cover photo which consists of several more surrealistic pictures. For example, a body diving into a table with paint splashing out. The message being conveyed throughout his profile is to think, question, and inspire because we are at the forefront. This is further solidified throughout his profile with ethos, logos, and pathos.
Ethos, Pathos, Logos are three devices used in persuasive writing and is used for advertising too. Ethos is the appeal to character which is to convince someone of the character’s credibility. Pathos is the appeal to emotion which is persuading an audience by relating to their emotional side. Logos is the appeal to reason which is to persuade an audience by reason. The logo represents a combination of self-perception and social-perception. Although they represent my diversity, the whole emblem links up in a chain like structure. The steps to creating the logo, the outcome, and what I plan to, or hope to do with my logo helped my understanding to who I am as a person.

The relationship between the elements determines the speaker’s argument and whether it will be successful in oratory or literature. Ethos, Logos and Pathos are each different aspects of the argument that must be balanced in order to succeed in persuading or convincing an audience. Ethos, or character, relates to the speaker’s credibility that the audience appeals to: it is useful when persuading a group of people to trust what you are saying or doing. Logos, or logic, is a way of convincing and appealing by reason, truth, and facts. Pathos relates to the audience’s emotions and their response to what the speaker is saying.

For example, if the writer proves that he or she is smart they are practicing ethos. Pathos on the other hand has more to do with emotions of the text and how they affect the reader. Writers practicing pathos know the demographics of their readers, making readers feel sad, angry, pity, and happy are mostly used forms of pathos.
